copy to dvd

I'm having trouble copying the videos here to a dvd. They come as avi's, I splice them together into one seamless film (thanks to instructions from Calahan), but I am unable to make a copy in the event my hard drive crashes.

I tried to copy/paste to the dvd burn drive and also I've uploaded it to Windows Media Player and tried to burn it to the dvd.. neither method works. I get a message that says Windows encountered an unexpected error each time.

Is there something I'm missing? Is it because it's an avi? Is there a special program I can download to burn a dvd? Help... please. Thanks.
