This is what I got this morning by email. Anyone else have this happen. Thank you

Hello,

Your RapidShare account is being terminated due to violating the terms
of service.

Illegal downloads are being hosted on our servers, voiding the terms of
service. We have detected and deleted the files and are now in the process
of terminating accounts that have downloaded these files.

This is to ensure that more illegal content does not appear on our servers.
We do not support nor encourage the usage of illegal software, music or
other media.

The terminated account will appear on RapidShare servers for 2-3 days but
you will not be granted access to it.

The login data for the terminated account is:

Login:
Password:

You may purchase another RapidShare account however repeatedly violating
the terms of service will lead to the closure of your account.

Best regards,

Abuse Team

Abuse team? That sounds awfully fishy to me.

Did you already contact rapidshare yourself?Deleting and suggesting you create a new account seems pretty strange, although it is still rapid off course.

I am not quite sure but i think i read this before and what happened was the guy had his account hacked and received a pretty similar mail.

It could be that they closed your account but my advice would be to contact rapidshare asap.

good luck.

I did email them as a paying customer for 2 years. No reply back yet. It is crazy for them to bite the hand that directly feeds them. Of course I would never pay for their services again.

Thank you for your thoughts.

That message was NOT sent by Rapidshare. You were sent that email by phishers who stole your account details.

I agree ...

poor man! the phishers succeeded to stole his credentials!

A piece of advice: never click on a link that is not a 'real' rapidshare link ... be aware that phishers use slight different names instead, as raphidshare, raphidsare, rapidsahre, etc ... which drive you into their phising sites ... you enter again your username & password and whoommm!!! they stole it!

by the way, at rapidshare switzerland there is not any 'abuse team' ... Laughing Laughing

You should always open another tab and go to rapidshare and logon, close the tab and go back to your download.... never eneter the data through an anonymizer.

Yup. That's a common phishers method to prevent the account holder to log into his RS account again.

The method is very simple:

After they phished the login data (through a fake RS site), they know all relevant data of the account holder.

Instead of changing the password (which will be emailed to the account holder by RS), they say in an email THEY are RS and close this account due to rule violation (99% of all accounts host copyright protected material).

The account holder will be glad not to have got in (more) trouble and the phishers are happy to own this account until it expires (they use this method very often, if the account is valid for several months).

If they had changed the pass, the account holder would have noticed it at the latest if RS emailed him.
If they don't change the password, he will notice it as soon as he logs into his account and recognize that his RS points and his dl rating are spent.

So they need to let the account info unchanged and the account holder not to log into his account again.
All that can be achieved by this one email.

And it's not only fiction, this theory based on facts I found this instruction on a Hacker board.

is losing your rapidshare account the worst of it, or does the phisher then use the account to post illegal crap that can get you in trouble with the FBI (**** etc?)
