I have an LG DVD Drive which has always been awsome, somehow the regional code has changed to region 8, probably with the all the troublews I have had lately with the system.

Does anyone know how to change it back to region 4?

If you are on XP then:
- right-click on your drive in explorer
- choose properties
- click the hardware tab
- select your drive and click properties
- click tab DVD-Region

DVD-Drives only allow a limited number of region code changes. If this number is exceeded you cannot change it through windows. In this case you should consider a firmware upgrade/reinstallation. If there isn't any firmware available then look for a pirate version of it.
BEWARE: firmware upgrades are not without risk. There is a chance that your drive goes completely fubar.

thanks E_55

the problem is when I do that and only sometimes does the dvd region tab appear. that is when I click something about digial coding beforehand, strange really.
Anyways, the properties already states that I am region 4, which is what it shold be, but when I go to play a dvd it tells me that my region is set to 8?

upsetting, nah just annoying.

I remember an old program called DVD Genie which used to manage region codes for XP, but I'm not sure it's still in use... worth a shot tho

Hm. That sounds a little bit like your system is not (properly) recognizing the drive. Maybe it helps if you remove it from the device manager, reboot and then reinstall it.
But that is just a guess. Sorry
