First off since this is my first post, I would like to say HI to everybody out there in Forumophilia land.

Secondly, I would like to ask your advice on the subject of Screen caps, I ain't very technically minded and i am at a loss as to how to create Caps from vids that could then be posted as a preview image here on the forum.

So i was hoping someone out there could help me out with a guide to the easiest software to use and how to go about it.

Hi Casper55. screenshot and thanks for joining.

Most poster here use Image Grabber 2 for previews:

It's free and easy to use.

Have fun and enjoy the board.

An alternative is to use Media Centre Classic (available http://www.divx-digest.com/software/media_player_classic.html among other places) which will generate thumbnail caps pictures directly:
Run Media Center Classic and it will appear with an empty window:

Use "File...Open" or drag and drop to load your file, then use "File...Save Thumbnails..." to create a .JPG file. It is a good idea to store these with your download file and with a very similar name. If not it can get confusing as to what belongs with what. Oh, and try to ensure that any spaces in your file name are replaced with underscores as many BB systems image commands do not work with spaces.

Hello. Wink

First off,
thanks to all the people here for all the needful advice.
I used to make my vid_caps in a very painful way since
now. Special thanks to AltonTowers for the best advice
because I personally prefer MPC now.

I used the programme imagegrab to make screenshots
of a movie and then with these pictures I made with an
other programme called ACDsee contact_sheets. You
gotta know that this method is very time-robbing and
costs alot of efforts and nervs (the result is the same
with the little difference that you can pick out the
screenshots on your own and not automatically so
you choose which pictures are in the vid_caps at least).

I also tried the media player classic out to make my
caps in an easier way but never had success with it
until now. Maybe I downloaded the wrong version
because when I tried to click "save thumbnails", the
programme said "goodbye" and the window closed
without giving me any vid_caps. This was so annoying
that I deleted this programme and never used it again
until today.

Now, after I read this thread I re-tried it once more
and this time it worked. The only thing what I had
to change was the option "overlay mixer". I changed
it to "system default", re-opened the movie and tried
it again with clicking "save thumbnails" and it really
worked this time. Very Happy

Here's a screenshot of it:

And if you're a registered member here then you can
see my very first vid_cap with MPC in the attachment. Shocked

Now I only have to create of every single movie of
mine some vid_caps. Phew...this will keep me busy
for a while, though. Rolling Eyes

Rayden
