I'm seeing more that a few "my HDD crashed - what's up with that? I always buy 2 HDD's and do manual mirror copies for ALL my favorites; if it's just something I dl'ed, it goes on an older single drive. Now for the fun part: Crypto-Crypto-Crypto !!!
I separate each drive into 2 Truecrypt file volumes, and use AES-Serpent-Twofish, and I use keyfiles (at least two). I never delete/rewrite onto a crypto volume - just buy more storage!!! This is the best way to defeat forensic analysis of the platter, and, to defeat simple cryptanalysis, I use different passwords (long, of course) and different keyfiles on each volume. Fake keyfiles are kept on my hdd's non-encrypted partitions, actual are kept on encrypted usb drives. I use timestomp to reset the file access dates on the keyfiles. Why go to all this trouble? It's something to do ! HEHEHE
