I think I may have an idea that can help with the phisherman problem. As a "rough draft" there will be details wanting refinement, but I think it could be made to work.
The last couple of nights, I've started a new warning thread (and, no, I wasn't the first). My intent being to warn the unwary without bumping the garbage to the top OR putting anything in his "Reply" column as I think a big ZERO is a warning in itself. Whether coincidental or not, this guy seems to stop after a warning is posted.
What if the mods started WARNING threads on each of the boards that seem to need it (and there's been crap on most of them), but NOT sticky them. Let them drop down when phishing activity is low. That way when Joe Poster sees something phishy and posts his warning, the tread pops back to the top serving something like a waving flag? People would still have to exercise a little caution, but these floods would be less likely to catch the unwary...or drunk.
On one hand, it would give the good guys (AND gals!) an outlet instead of replying directly to the phisher and it would serve as a checklist of sorts, and on the other could well increase the cadre of members who'd bother to help out. Posters would, of course, have to be reminded to finish the job by hitting the report button, but it may increase the frequency of THAT too since they've already put some effort into it.
Again, I realize there are potential problems, but I do believe it's worth considering.

Smukke Charlie has one floating in the video section now. It is a few days old.

Shadowman said he was working on a new thread about phishing, and he already has one that hasn't been posted on for a few weeks.

If an error message asks you to log in to Rapidshare, don't key in your codes. It may be a phishing attempt would be a great title for a warning.
Quote:
If you think you may not be logged in for any reason, go to rapidshare.com to log in. Never log in in the middle of a page. That isn't where you log in to Rapidshare.

Phishing only works if you manually key in you username and password when prompted by the fake message. Being on the fake page does not harm you in any way, as long as you don't type in your codes.

If you see phishing attempts, report them.

Then give an example and talk about the URL's.

Someone might actually read it.

I'm still not sure what all the fuss is about anymore. The phishing treads aren't up that long, and they attempts have existed for months now.

People seem to be so afraid of the phishing attempts that they won't even go on a link. That is just wrong.

You can use my phishing examples thread for that:

https://www.forumophilia.com/topic46685.html

I've merged there a lot of phishing examples and anybody can post there.

It's located in the video section and that's the place where most phishing threads are posted.

Suggestions regarding the title are welcome (I'll change it from time to time).
