SOOOOO slow!

Does anybody know any faster ways to download than by megaupload/sexuploader? With high speed internet, downloading speeds should not be at 20 Kbps. I am new at this, so if this is an obvious question, please cut me some slack.

www.rapidshare.de is considerably faster, but the free downloads only allow one visit per hour. If you want to visit there often, a download subscription is very cheap. Uploads are always free.

Aah yes, it is! I thought there was a SIZE limit though; you know, like you can only download 50mb/hr or something. Well, even at 20kbps it's still more efficient to perhaps do megaupload etc. I suppose it's just too much to ask that there be unlimited downloads at good speeds for free...

Most people get around the 50mb limit by uploading split archives. Winrar (http://www.rarlabs.com/rar/wrar351.exe) can split a really large file over multiple archives. You simply tell it the size you want for each volume and it does the rest.

Of course, this still brings up the problem of one visit per hour for free downloads. My experience has been that the one hour wait, followed by a fast download is still faster than megaupload when you're looking at a 200mb file.

I agree that it would be faster to use rapidshare if I was downloading 200mb (That's huge!). I mainly just download smaller vids though, so I think that for my personal use megauploader would be better (only because of the rapidshare one-timer). Do you agree, or am I overlooking something? How do I split files using Winrar? (I have Winrar already.)

Notice on this screenshot how I typed the volume size in the bottom left corner. When making the archive, Winrar will keep splitting as many times as necessary to make all files never exceed that size.

And if your files aren't TOO big, then Megaupload will work as long as you have something else to do while you're waiting.

How about those RAR splits with expander 10 on a OS X 10.4, G5,
Sometimes they expand typically, then sometimes expand and just disapear? No files unloaded!

Any sugestions?
