Spam is the measure of success of the forum. Generally, the more you have, the more successful your site is becoming.

Another forum I frequented made it impossible to post a link until the third post. That cut down on the spam"bots". It hard to get a bot to post two ""thank yous" before it begins spamming. It doesn't slow down the "human touch" of the determined individual at all.

I hate spam.

Hey everybody, go to the recent posts page and look at all the brand new names that appear several times often posting old stuff that's already been on several threads. Is it just me or does that look fishy as hell?

These today were no bots. One came to the defense of another after it was marked as "phishing" saying it was a good link and accusing the poster who'd nailed him of some crap. Fortunately somebody was on the ball, because both of those vanished from the boards a few minutes later and another that had all the earmarks was gone a little later. It cost me a couple of posts because I'd weighed in too, but it was worth it to see that garbage thrown out. Maybe this goes on a lot more than I realize and I just am not on at the right time to see it, but it looked like a real onslaught today.
You mods do a helluva job policing this stuff and helping keep the rest of us safe. Thank you.

I'm probably spamming

It's a little bit like banned, only different.

It means "shorten by cutting a part."

I don't know what you said but it must have been pretty bad.

Generally, the quicker the posts get deleted, the less likely the return of the true spammers. The guys with an agenda to promote something are the true spammers. They aren't here to actually hurt anyone, but simply to use the forum for their own means. They are truly annoying and they still suck.

The phishers and the hackers are the ones I don't understand. You have to be a form of lower life to try to harm to another individual.

That seems like a really good thing that the admins here should look into. If it's something that they can do it might lower their crankiness factor from having to spend so much time dealing with all the spam.

This is something that has been discussed from time to time before. Personally I think it's a very good idea.

I don't really mind the spammers that much. Most of them only post once or twice and they are easy to spot and remove. The phishers however are much more of a problem. They are becoming increasingly subtle and sophisticated and often post multiple posts in quick succession before the mods can act. (I've just deleted well over 50 posts by spammers/phishers. Some of the phishers had posted over a dozen posts).

I'd like to once again thank all of you who report suspect posts when you see them. It really speeds up the deletion of the bad guys. Smukke Charlie is one member who comes to mind who does sterling work identifying phishers here. He and I have practically become a double act. He sets them up and I knock them down Very Happy ).

I think it´s time for make some changes and that the rules schould be that you must have +25 replays/quotes before you can start a new thread. That will give the phishers a little more work and they can´t just registrate and start posting ther shit.

In SQL, the TRUNCATE statement removes all the data from a table. Smile

I've seen this happen many times on many forums I've been on. What you guys should do is have a post limit before getting access to certain threads or sections. You might have more spamming but it might deter some of the guys wishing to do harm if the post limit is large.
