(Many, many ) years ago I went to an all boys prep school. The homophobia was totally off the charts (myself included I am sad to say), probably overcompensating for the fact that there were no girls around. However, I grew up eventually and realized that people should be allowed to be who they are without having to be afraid of what small minded people might do to them out of ignorance and misplaced fear. (I've also been married, so I have firsthand experience at what it feels like to be afraid all the time , so more than ever I think people should just relax and live and let live).

Which brings me, in a very roundabout way I admit, back to the whole topic of homophobia and over-the-top machismo in porn. Having seen the overcompensation of all of us k1ds in school, I tend to read comments like some of those in your rant in that light - you are watching, as you said, a couple of penises rubbing together in a DP, and naturally that makes you want to pound your chest and break something to prove your heterosexual masculinity. I get it. I was not saying that I think you are out there bashing people at night. But I got over my homophobia years ago, and I now I try to point it out whenever I get a whiff of it from other people, even if it is mild/unconscious/not really intentional. Sort of a penance I have imposed on myself for having been a jackass as a k1d.

The reality is, however, that clean shaved, non-threatening gay men are always going to be the predominant "dudes" in porn scenes because the girls are not threatened in any way by them. And of course because they are admittedly more physically attractive to women than fat, hairy slobs like myself.

Which brings us back to the Max Hardcores of the world. Why are they are so eager to mistreat girls on film? Is it simply overcompensation like immature boys in a prep school, where they go overboard on the machismo to "prove" their hetero 'maleness'? Or, to paraphrase the Bard, do wethinks they doth protest too much? Hmmm... From my perspective, the more someone mistreats girls in porn, the more likely I am to think they are gay (and assholes). IMHO.

How about bald/crew-cut chicks? I am not at all into that. While it is completely understandable for the occasional beautiful and sensitive woman (e.g., Sinead O'Connor) to shave their heads because they are sick of being treated like a beautiful woman instead of as a person...how big a turnoff is it when an already unattractive woman (e.g. Belladonna) cuts off all her hair?? A truckload of Viagra wouldn't be enough at that point.

the thing that i hate about porn is that i am addicted to it - but i can take that to a degree. HOWEVER the thing I hate most about porn is that it can become a replacement for reality, for being with other people, face to face.

though probably that's not an objection to porn per se, it's more technological, how we abuse the computer, or the tv, or drugs or whatever black hole that sucks the life force out of you.

Good question, there's a lot of things I can't stand:

1) Anal. I know tons of people love it, I hate it.
2) Any scene where the cameraman thinks extreme closeups = sexy. Fuck that shit, I prefer to see the whole bodies of people.
3) Too much makeup. Pretty girls don't need it, ugly ones shouldn't be in porn in the first place.

You are spot on with the makeup too. I think the overall theme of the responses here, which I like, has been clearly anti-misogyny. Overdoing the makeup to justify treating the girls like 'whores' (see Max Harcore), as well as turning their assholes into sinkholes both definitely are not the kind of porn that we lovers-of-women like to see.

I guess there are 2 very different "schools of porn" so to speak - the porn for men who hate women and want to see them treated badly by muscular men with the large penises they wish they had, and porn for men who worship women, which is more artistic/realistic, and has a much greater degree of real or implied intimacy.

The need for me to have multiple computers.
