Wondering if anyone can suggest any programs that can be used to organize video files on a computer. Movies, Tv Shows, porn, etc. I'm looking for something that lets you organize them by categories too, like Sci-Fi, Horror, etc. Thanks for any tips!

I think it's funny in a place where people obviously have terabytes of video video files, that nobody bothered to respond to this.

So this leaves me to one of two conclusions.

A) That all the people here with massive video collections have no means of organizing them. (I find this hard to believe due to the extent and "anality", for lack of a better word of some people's collections here)

or

B) The majority of members here could care less about the posts in the "general chat" section since there is no porn.

Or a much more likely

C) That like crows and shiny objects, acquiring the porn is goal #1 for most of us, and that therefore we have tons and tons of porn that needs to be burned to storage media to keep our HDs from filling up. And that we therefore have no need to organize the porn in larger than 4.7Gb chunks because it is too large a collection to fit on a single HD all together.

When they come up with some sort of data crystal that can store hundreds of terabytes of information (1Tb = about 200 DVDRs) and I can copy it all to one place, then sorting will become a meaningful endeavor. Until then there is just no way to sort it all unless you have a relatively small collection. My current sorting methodology is 4 main folders and their various subfolders.

Will it be a bitch to sort if technology ever catches up? Sure. But the dearth of replies to this thread does not mean that we are all jerks, as your post implies. We just don't have a good answer to the question. I came here looking for an answer myself. What should I have done as a viewer who did not find an answer? Post a "who knows" reply that would have gotten the thread starter excited upon seeing that a new reply had been posted, only to disappoint him with a useless post? I notice that your reply also failed to provide an answer, for all the bluster of it.

I think your reply (flame and all) is much better than no reply at all. At least it shows that there are others interested in the same solution. Because if suddenly there is a flurry of activity in the thread maybe somebody who does have a solution might take notice.

And I still have a hard time believing that someone with probably hundreds of burned disks with content on them are able to find specific files ("so-and-so" model's video 14159a) without some kind of program to catalog them. I think it's far more likely that they do use them , but for whatever reason can't be bothered to take the time to share the info.

And since someone else has shown an interest, I will share what I use.

I originally started using Iview Media Pro. It had alot of features I was looking for (removable media support, thumbnails, searchable keywords and notes). However, it was kind of buggy with crashing and worst of all it randomly sorted the disc names. Any hopes of getting an improved product from them was pretty much quashed when they were bought out by Microsoft. They have released an "update", but from the stuff I've read , it's the same program with some shiny new bugs inserted.

So....The replacement I have found is ACDsee. While this primarily a photo software, it does support most media files. It has the above mentioned things that I am looking for, but there are a few things it lacks (rm support, customizable thumbnails, category display).

Hopefully this will be helpful to someone out there.

Since when is it a "flame" to respond to members being called lazy

or dishonest because they are so obsessive-compulsive (negative characterization) that they must have something to add but are deliberately withholding that information

or that they are selfish, and only give when they receive first?

That's not a flame, it's defending yourself against a flame. I guess we will have to agree to disagree. Posting a meaningless comment saying "I don't know" is not polite IMO.

As for your second post, thanks for the information. But why did you not bother to include this in your first post, I wonder? You called out members for not responding and made accusations that members had information they weren't sharing...while you had information and did not share it in your post. Question Question Question

As for the programs you mentioned, how do they work, and how slow do they operate? Do they scan existing DVDs, and how long does it take to scan a full disc in your experience?

What does your program do with cryptically named files? Does it give you the opportunity to open a movie named, say, "23" and then edit the file's entry in the database to add performer, etc. info? And you mentioned crashes with other programs - does ACDSee crash, or has it been reliable? Is it a CPU hog while running, like ITunes, or is it quick and RAM friendly?
