Sorry to hear that Gem. I hope you get it fixed soon mate. Makes me think I need to upgrade my virus guard. Anyone care to recommend a top quality one?

Sorry Gemini37, any info on the virus would be greatly appreciated. Personally I use Symantec Client Security, which is a which is a professional edition that can secure a whole network, or just a single PC.
What i like about it most is it can be customized to just about any configuration. Not to be confused with Symantec Internet Security or Symantec Anti-virus Home, which are total junk.

I would stay the hell away from Iolo System Mechanic 7/firewall/antivirus. It is worse than total junk, it can destroy your OS as I've seen in numerous user reviews and which it came close to doing to me. I even caught it once attacking itself before I ditched it a couple of weeks ago. I can think of a worse commercial software that I've seen in the last twenty years. The company support is abominable.

Avast + Spybot + Windows Firewall + Router.

I hope that's good enough.

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys...Wink...I appreciate it. I have no idea what it was or where it came from. Kaspersky AV Pro did not find any viruses, trojans, malware, spyware etc. but what I can tell you is what it was doing to my OS.

1.My browser would freeze and the onlyway out was to open my task manager.
2.I had intermittent ability to drag items to folders which do about 2000+ times a day.

All in all it made my computer fun a living hell. I am still backing up and sanitizing my slave HD.
The main thing that was lost was about 2 years worth of bookmarks neatly organized in folders for quick access. Sad
I am still shocked that KAV did not catch it but I have upgraded my firewall to Sygate and have put new security measures in place. Whew...what a long 24 hours it's been.

regards,

If I can suggest it Gem, I use Trend Micro's PC-cillin and have never had a problem, it updates its self some 4 or 5 times a day and has, touch wood, never let anything through.
