Although I am a Yankee fan(tonight's the night - do or die), I wish you luck with your Sawwwwwks, Dr. J. I don't think you guys have the team to do it, but that's coming from one who believes that the Yanks do, so take it for what it's worth. Laughing Laughing Laughing Believe it or not, I always like the Bosox. I grew up in the 70's and 80's and I always loved Jim Rice and Dewey Evans.
And, besides, until recently, we always beat you! Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

You can do it!

You can do it all night long!

Put a whoopin on Cleveland.

I was sitting in a sports bar in Cambridge one night and the bartender was handing out raffle tickets. Next thing I knew, I had won a pair on the 3rd base line to see the Yankees play the Sox at Fenway. Damn nice bar it was too.

Nah, it's cool Jules. The Yanks didn't have it. I think that I am now going to root for the Sox...but I do like Cleveland. They are a little like the Yankees use to be - a cohesive group of teammates - playing together. And Sabathia and Carmosa are deadly. How many rows back are you? I'll keep and eye out for the cutie with the blond hair knockin' back a coupla dogs and Sam's. Wink

Do us all a favor when you eat the hotdog. Do it slowly and tenderly. If you could try to hold a whole one in mouth, that would be good too.

Smile

Have a great time and good luck.

Foot-long, right? Wink

Well sheidt. My team phuckin' lost to the hottest team in baseball. You know, in the National League, where they play REAL baseball and the pitcher has to bat (the way it should be). Wink Cool Ahhh well, at least they were entertaining and fun to watch all year, whilst I'm laboring in the eastern US...

In the other league, sorry JG ... I don't think your Sox will do it, not if Carmona and Sabathia pitch the way they did before, uh uh. I don't think it matters though, as I can't picture anyone beating the Rockies right now. Unless they cool off, of course.

But now I'll be watching the first-base side stands for wimmen eatin' hot dogs!!! Twisted Evil

p.s. how could Esty possibly play pepper, when he's always got one hand on the computer, while his other hand is always wrapped around his ... potato farl? Razz

ramblin'man,

you're correct about esty... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... maybe i need to think more before inviting people to play pepper.... maybe you and agnomenamedgrimblekrumble would be better choices...

it is true, undeniably, the nl plays real baseball...

i am hoping (this is my dad thinking through me i guess) that the interleague play during the regular season might just be the catalyst that one day will cause the demise of the dh... but then, what would ortiz do... this is a tough question... actually asking that every batter in the line-up can fly around the bases...

yet i digress...

have a fun play-offs, everyone...! ... hey! i've got a train to catch!!!

I gotta say I love the idea that there even is a DH. It's part of what makes/baseball so cool. I don't think that any other sport in the world has two leagues that have such disparity in their rules, and are still the same sport. Do you know what I mean? The outfields in all the parks are different. There is no time limit to a baseball game. One game could, theoretically, go on for days. Baseball is quirky, and that's part of it's appeal.

Can't say who's gonna win...but I don't think the Rockies have a chance, Ramblin'. But it will be either Boston or the Tribe. Pitching, pitching, pitching. Sorry `bout the Phils - much like the Bombers, they didn't show up. Rolling Eyes Evil or Very Mad I think Joes gotta go. Many people disagree; Torre is such an icon at this point, but he's waaaay too laid back for me. He pens an obvious line up, and then watches the game. Rolling Eyes Sour g****s, I guess. Laughing

...which is basically what any manager in the AL does. The designated hitter rule has taken an entire part of the game away, because the manager doesn't have to gamble on whether or not a pitcher can hit anything. Nope, nope, nope. I have to prefer the NL game.

Pepper with Grimble is a bit problematic as well. Remember that Gnomes are only about 20 cm tall. A baseball, to him, would be like a beach ball made of solid wood to other folks. And a baseball bat? Yikes. So he could only do fielding, and hey, I'd be afraid of squashing the little guy ... he is, after all, the best dang Gnome in the universe. Very Happy

So anyway JG, enjoy the game. You pitch 'em, and I'll hit 'em. Oh, wait, check that ... let ME do the pitching, and we'll see what you think of my 'curve'. Cool The thing breaks at least 8 inches, down to the left. Twisted Evil

Interleague play is, and has been, silly IMRO. Created by the ferkin' owners to create more TV revenue. Silly twats.

I didn't mean to drift the thread and discuss the merits of the DH system, sorry. Oh, and Elmo is correct ... as usual. No doubt he's pining for the days when "Les Expos de Montréal" were in town. And hey, they did make the playoffs once ... in 1981 ... and Rick Monday of the Dodgers will be forever hated in Montreal.

Oh, wait ... never mind. Hockey season has started! Rolling Eyes Laughing

5-1 Colorado wins AT Arizona tonight, Gnomey. I watched that team slaughter my Phils, who actually played pretty well. Right now they have no weakness. They've won 18 of their last 19 games, and have incredible confidence and chemistry. Remember the way that Boston was after they came back to beat the Yankees after being down 3-1 in 2004? Did anybody really think that StL -- the best team in baseball with 105 wins that year -- had any chance in the World Series after that? No way, they got swept. Anywho if CO continues to play at the same level, they'll win it all. They'll beat AZ in 4 or 5 games, and then plow through the AL team. That is, assuming they play at the same level ... which is probably a big assumption and maybe won't happen.

I agree with ya GK about the quirkiness of the game, that's one reason its my favorite sport of all. And at least they don't stop for friggin' TEA in the middle of the game like a certain other sport (all they play in India) with a bat and ball! Rolling Eyes Laughing
