Very interesting. We've noticed the effect here in Sweden (I work in a porn shop). Many of our best customers now download their stuff with Bit-torrent and find their fetishes for free on the internet. Sales are in decline!

Too bad for the big companies, but they can probably compete if they have more creative ideas and try to do the stuff that people want - very young-looking girls in very hardcore and humiliating scenes, but without Max Hardcore sleaze is a good niche. Various fetishes need to be better exploited by better companies.

I used to buy as much as a dozen per month. The last one I bought was in Dec 2004 and I am not likely to ever buy another.

I agree with wikman. Companies that make an effort to carve out a specific niche for themselves will stand a better chance of long-term success. Most sites simply slap fuck-flicks on their website and expect people to buy their materials. The money is there to be made for those who apply creativity and diversity in their content.
