can people please stop putting passwords on there rar files, because sometimes they forget to post them and its really pointless.

Why are you demanding something whats totally nonsense? You put a password on something to protect it. Why don't you just ask the poster for the pass? Anyway this is also the wrong thread for such an post. Don't be so rude to good posters who are just wanting to give you some good stuff password protected or not. Look closely for the pass or ask. I know I'm a bad mod but I have to keep up my rep.

If you take my advice I'm fine with you I swear... You can trust me...

It is not pointless and please don't disrespect the mods who are here to HELP YOU!!!

Password proteting files helps keep them alive longer on upload sites such as rapidshare and megaupload! Please don't be so silly when respondng to a mod who is having a little joke with you! Life is not like that! He knows better and is trying to help with guidance. Password protecting files is always best!

posting a picture or your boyfriend has no relation to the thread you started

as listed by the big E it holds the post more securily on many hosting sites for longer, some posts are deleted a couple of days after posting due to complaints and this is less likely if the file is pw protected.
Whinging about the MODs and putting them down is not only c.h.i.l.d.i.s.h but shows a total lack of respect for the whole forum and its members. I only wish the MOD who edited your post had left his name to identify his work.

Well I thought my "Signature" would be sufficient. It was me who was complaining about this "I-am-to-lazy-to-look-out-for-a-pass" resp. "I-am-to-impatient-to-ask-or-PM-for-a-Pass" user who did 2 asks for passes but I can assure that the most passes ARE public and you just have to look out for them in the same thread or PM the poster.

Anyway I'm not serious too sometimes but how's the sayin'? Don't shit where you live or something... Whatever I was

Gross words are out of fashion ...

And talking about protection, sometimes an author does not want to see his/her work reposted in another place without recognition. By passwording with phrases like "uploaded_by_xyz" at least prevents some of this unwanted reposting and in any case unmasks the ungrateful reposter.

And next time, pls remember one of the golden rules here at the forum:

Mod golden rule: A mod is always right, in case of disagreement, the mod golden rule applies. And so on. And so forth.

The only time passwords bug me is when I've forgotten where I copy and pasted them. Then I have to trace my steps back through several forums and threads to figure out where the files came from. It happened to me a lot in my first week of downloading RS files, but you quickly learn to open notepad and save all the passes there.

However, even when you do have all the passwords neatly saved in a text file, if you've got 100+ files in your download queue it can get kind of confusing which passes are for which files. In the past 2 weeks I've been trying another system, save files to password named folders. For example save all kuifje files to folder d:\posted-by-kuifje. The benefit of this system is that you can input the password at the time the task is created, not later.

However if you use rapget, this method will not work so effectively as the program does not preserve target destinations for downloads in queue the way that a real download manager like Flashget will, ie. flashget will let you assign different folder destinations for each item in queue but rapget will allow only ONE folder destination for the entire queue.

Hopefully Flashget will support RS soon, or maybe someone can recommend another RS downloader to me that lets each file in queue have different download folders. It's a pretty handy feature not just for remembering passwords.

Hi 64ww45gysb

This one works well with RS, have been using it for over a year myself.
http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/download.htm
If you have sufficent bandwith for it and is a Premium user you can do multipel parallell downloads. If you run 4 at the same time, each could go to a different folder.
If a post of links have been made in code you can copy and paste them into the queue, just remember to give the targetfolder first.
If you download from a paysite where a user/pass is required for the downloads you will enter that before you add the task to the queue.

The name sounds familiar. I think I tried it along a bunch of other dl managers a while ago and flashget came out on top, but at that time I wasn't downloading any RS files. It'll definitely have a spot beside flashget now. Thanks for saying that you've put it through the RS wringer for a year, that's the kind of test mileage data I want to hear.
