so i have a few files on rapidshare and i suddenly see someone seems to have added one of them to a folder. i tried to look at their folder but it's password protected. i'm not very familiar with rapidshare, so can anyone let me know what this is all about? someone can add one of my files to their folder?

thanks...

I don't think someone can add your file to their folder. What I guess has happened is that they have downloaded your file, edited it (removed a few frames maybe as RS checks and rejects files which have been posted before) and then uploaded it with the same name into their RS folder.

There's not a lot you can do about it unless you can come up with a valid reason to complain to RS and ask for it to be removed.

ok so.. when you enter your rapidshare file area, you have your list of files. if you make a folder, it shows what files are in what folders... so, the other day i logged in and there was a random folder attached to one of my files. i tried to look at the folder and it's password protected to a user named OA0XUO..

so.. i didn't create the folder, so it seems as if someone has attached my file to a folder they created? i don't really care so much, as it's only for a zip file of candid beach pics, but it does make me somewhat uneasy..

thanks for replying by the way fantailedalbi...

I have had an instance like this.
One of the files in my Premium list had one day a folder attached to it.
I couldn't get into the folder.
I PM'd the member in this forum but he didn't pick it up in two months.
Since the file was on RS.de "problem" was solved when I moved it to RS.com and deleted the old upload.

I think you are slightly wrong fanta about duplicate uploads.
RS dont check for duplicates any more.
I think they only check for files that has been complained about so they are not uploaded again.
R0m30 have told me about a file he by mistake uploaded twice getting two
different download numbers.
None of them where removed by RS.

That's news to me Svinto. Certainly when I was with RS.de I had a couple of times when I uploaded a file only to be told that the file already existed and I was given the original reference.

With RS.com I've had no problems but then I try to make sure that all my uploads are unique. Under 100Mb I might rar the file and add a few preview shots, above 100Mb I'll split the file to something like 97Mb chunks. No problem with unknown files appearing though.

any suggestions on what to do? is it possible to delete someone else's folder from my account without killing the file? again, it's not so bad i guess.. just a bit odd because i have no idea what they are doing with that link..

also again, thanks for responding ya'all.

Not a lot you can do.
I haven't got a clue how they could add it to the folder in the first place.
Taking into consideration how you would add a file to your folder.
Could be a glitch/bug in the RS system.

You don't have acces to the VIP Club but in there is a topic talking about strange behaviour on the download counting.

In short: if you have a file splitted in several parts one of the parts will in a matter of hours recieve 2000+ downloads.
All the rest of the parts remain the same lets say 25 downloads.
That has been written of as an RS glitch/bug.
It has happened to dussins (including me) of members that I know off.

Don't loose any sleep over it. Very Happy

You can upload a file as many times as you like to RS

Actually it's not an RS bug...its a Newzfind worm!

I started a thread the other day and have been looking at the number of downloads to see what's popular However, some links had huge volumes and others low, also, as svinto pointed out, between split files. The high volumes also made no sense in relation to the number of views in the forum. A quick google search of one of the files (just the name, not the URL) led me here http://newzfind.com/teen_soft_and_hard_.html

This monkey is putting stuff out there that makes no sense. 4 of the 7 links are incomplete files so vids either cut-off, don't have a part for joining, won't reflect screens etc. So now they stand a much greater chance of some pissed-off leacher complaining and having them deleted.

I would like to add a password to these files (and edit the original posts here) with something like "stolen-by-newzfind" or "newzfind sucks" i.e. know something to deter them from further poaching. Would this be a smart move, a stupid move, or just a complete waste of time and is there something that we can do about this as a board in unison. Any thought are appreciated
