I have a few mpg's that are not playing in various players. (divx player, winamp, quicktime). most of my mpg's run without making problems, but some of them are 'not valid video files'.

today i tried to convert one file into a divx-file and i could see a few minutes of that file, but without sound. now i know that this mpg is working but i dont know what is wrong. btw. i have win2000 installed so maybe that is the problem.

please help me!

Try playing them with vlc-player.
If you don't have it already you can get it from here.

If that don't work then the file is probably corrupt beyond recovery.

Find out what codec it is by opening the mpg with either one of these tools.
