It is amazing what a fighter jet can do these days in terms of aerial acrobatics. This is a clip showing the Sukoi SU30-MK aka Flanker model C, manufactured by the IRKUT Corporation of Russia. You may have to watch the clip a few times to truly appreciate what the pilot is doing with this jet and, yes, I am sure there are plenty other jets that can do aerial acrobatics but this clip is worth a gander.

This info from wiki explains the aerodynamics displayed in the clip:
Quote:
Equipped with a digital fly-by-wire system, the Su-30MK is able to perform several unique manuevers. They include the well-known Pugachev's Cobra and the Bell. While performing a somersault maneuver, the aircraft makes a 360-degree turn in the pitch plane without any loss of altitude. In the Controlled Flat Spin maneuver, the aircraft performs several full turns in the horizontal plane, with zero forward speed, virtually on the spot.

I think thats because of Thrust Vectoring that he can do such moves. The little canards or wings at the nose are a great aid fot the pilot as well. As far as I know the Eurofighter Typhoon can do such a move as well. It's so incredible and it must be real suriprising in a dogfight:-)

This is the trick:

The "exhausts" are helping to maneuver the plane. Also the pilot is outstanding no doubt Smile

If someone's interested in talking about airplanes and fighter jets we could open a special topic for that:-) Thanks for the vid abraxas;-)

Jabroni, yep the maneuvers are accomplished using the air-brake, strakes, canards, and carbon-carbon exhaust 'tabs'.

Here are two sites that I got some clips from:

http://www.patricksaviation.com/videos/search/?q=su-30

http://www.flightlevel350.com/aviation_videos.php?airplane=Sukhoi+Su-30

A couple of the clips are in MPEG format but most are in Flash FLV format.
