RS have changed their services again and I'm not quite sure what to say...

It "appears" that the service can now only be used for storing files to be sent directly by email or by social network, so no longer as a link on a forum. There are some other changes too, such as it is no longer possible to see the number of downloads and the layout and navigation is completely different. The original file-name no longer shows up in the RS file-name.

Old files appear to be kept stored until any given account expires.

I spent about 30 minutes "playing" with the new RS, and I'm interested what other users think about the changes.

Please note, this thread is not intended to be a discussion about RS versus various other file-hosts, and which one is better etc. so please keep your replies directly related to the new RS issue.

The interface is a little better but still very, very slow for me. There shouldn't be a 5 second delay when I click on a folder. And it seems pretty stupid to make people make multiple clicks to copy and post a link.

Here's a link of Beata for people to try out.

No problems for me with that link. However, I'm not sure users without an account can download it. Anyone?

No, without an account you cannot download. Anonymous downloads are not possible then.

Apparently RS wasn't satisfied with just slitting their own financial throat. Now they've gone and cut off their own head.

Still, there must be a way to make links public. I have the file set on 'share' but they no longer show you if anyone has downloaded it, so I can't tell if anyone did. Stupid, stupid, STUPID!

I was just in the middle of a RS download and I went to start a 2nd one. I got an error message saying my account - premium - didn't allow me to do that!

I sent them a message a few days ago with a number of questions concerning their recent changes.. so far no reply at all.

And Mike wouldn't be Mike if he hadn't copied the questions in case they didn't answer:

I'd like to give some feedback about the new changes to RS.
1. The RS site is very very very slow compared to the previous version.
2. The navigation is a lot less transparent than the previous version. It does looks nicer.
3. There are no instructions on how to use the new version. It appears that some functions have been disabled or moved somewhere where they can not be found (see 4.).
4. I want to send a file to a friend using the PM function at a forum. He does not use social networks or have a public email. As far as I can see this is not possible because RS do not make available the file URL for free users. Requesting help on this issue.
5. Is this a beta (or test) version? I ask this because there is no user interface other than the e-mail support.

They replied:

Dear customer,

thank you kindly for your feedback.
The speed issues should have been solved by now.
Some functions have indeed been removed but many of them will come back soon, as some users have wished for them to be added again.
You should be able to see the download link for a file, right above the buttons for social networks and e-mails, as seen in the attached screenshot.
This new website of ours isn't a beta version anymore, but we are still trying to adjust it according to our users feedback.

Best regards,

Raphael Brügger
RapidShare Support

They don't tell which functions will be coming back soon. Let's hope it's the free download function.

Things do seem to be getting better. Myfolly mentioned elsewhere that if you sign into a free RS account, it will improve your speed. I know a lot of people don't like having to do such a thing, but it doesn't take that long. Probably faster than downloading a 10mb file!

Also, I see they added remote uploading back in. That certainly helps a lot.

I'm not getting enough feedback on this thread.

In other threads people are complaining about RS that they can't find the links etc. That goes for the free users of most filehosts. I can't check here because i'm recognized as a premium-user and so different "rules" apply.

Please guys, if you want us to help you, then you will have to help us by helping to understand the issues for free downloading.
