Swamp Thing 1982







Wes Craven wrote and directed this film, which is based on the DC comics character. It is one of his early works, before he went on to make better-known movies later in his career (somewhat similar to Spielberg and his early film "Duel"). Adrienne Barbeau, the damsel-in-distress-turned-heroine in "Swamp Thing", seems to dominate every scene where she appears. Which is most of them.

When MGM originally released this film on DVD, they accidentally released the international version onto the US market with a PG rating. The trouble was that the international version contains nudity in two short scenes, most notably a topless Ms. Barbeau bathing in the swamp (see vidcap). Realising their error after numerous complaints from parents, MGM yanked the DVD off store shelves, and the version re-released in 2005 is shorter by a couple of minutes. Consequently, the international version is now quite rare and collectible, with prices ranging up to $200+ for the DVD on Amazon
