I am the primary user of my computer, but there are a couple of other people who use it. I created separate logins for them.

I just added a second hard drive to my comp and use it to store all my pics and vids. I don't want the non-admin users of my computer to be able to view the drive. How can I do this?

Windows XP, BTW

Also...how do I hide folders that are in the drive they are allowed to view?

I select "hidden" for the attributes of the folder, but it still shows up ghosted for all users. I want it to vanish entirely for them, but be visible for me.

You might want to check out Magic Folders at:

Beyond Magic Folders, other apps that can cloak or password protect folders include:

PGP Desktop Professional.v9.5.1
CryptoExpert 2007 Professional.v6.6.8

Use a specific, proven and reliable product for that ...

Do you know 'hidefolders' ?

Allows you to completely hide up to 2 (two) folders.

Download for WinXP may be done from here:

use the Group Policy editor( type gpedit.msc in the run box) and change whether it is accessible and/or visible. I use it for hiding my C: partition which is only for swap.

Inside the Group Policy editior:
User Configuration>Administrative Templets>Windows Components>Windows Explorer

look for: "Hide these specified drives in my computer" and "Prevent access to drives from my computer"

I use a porgram called folder lock. It's very easy to use. Basically when you install it, it gives you a folder to put your private documents, pics, vids etc. in and then you can password protect and lock that folder with 3 different levels of security settings. You can even hide the program on your system in windows xp if you want.

Also another thing I would recommend is using external portable hard drives. You can copy this program to these drives also and lock everything that is on each drive. Before others use your comp you can just lock and then unplug the drive(s) that store your collection of porn and put them away somewhere safe and out of sight.

For info on the type of drives I am talking about do a search for "western digital passport". You can carry these drives around in your pocket and can hold up to 160 gigs of data. They are about 6 inches long by 4 inches wide and about 3/4 of an inch thick and are powered entirely through a usb cable!

If your in real doubt you can hide in in the top left hand drawer under the shirts, no one will ever find it there.

Try this:

http://www.truecrypt.org/

It costs you quite a plenty of nothing for this purpose.

I've been using Magic Folders for no less than seven years, and it has yet to fail me. It's really a great product for hiding your porn folders from your family.

I would also recommend Truecrypt. Just encrypt either the entire second harddrive or if it's really big, break it up into several encrypted drives. That also works great on USB drives. You can install the traveler files on the USB drive and access the encrypted volume from any computer.
