computer situation question

I downloaded a movie. Everytime I tried to play it, would get windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. Finally deleted it to the recycle bin. Once again windows encountered a problem and had to close. I then ran window washer which bleaches everything in the recycle bin. There were 3,873 items. 5 times or more the number of items actually deleted by me. Anybody have any idea what is or was going on? Thanks for any insight.

palmer,
If "window washer" is anything like the program I use, it overwrites every file that has ever been deleted. This may well be the reason for this.
