Have just looked thrue the topic.
How rude of me to not have introduced myself to the community before.
I was visiting a site with TF galleries.
Downloaded the images one pic after the other.
A very tedious task. Wondered if there was a way to grab the images more easily.
Saw there was a link on the site to a forum (this one).
I was then a total novice about forums, who runned them?
Where did moderators come from? Where they growing on trees?
Curious and catious, I lurked for three months before I started to post anything.
My virgin content post

Sorry guys, links are since long dead in this topic.
A month later I had 326 posts and VIP status.
About a year later I was appointed as a moderator by the forum owner
Good Samaritan (
GS).
This after having had a PM conversation with
Abraxas who had been suggested by some members as a new mod the same day.
I asked how he had became a mod.
Before I knew it, I had some new extra bits on the page I viewed.
The Senior Moderator back then where the legendary
sir_darkstar (
SD).
After another 10 months as a Moderator was I sick and tired of
GS lack of interest to respond to peoples requests for VIP acces.
It could take weeks before they where acknowledged.
I then suggested
GS to appoint one or two Moderators as Admins to assist with granting VIP acces.
He choosed me and
SD as the trustees.
About 8 months later, when
SD, retired I soon realised that there was a need for more moderators and at least one more Admin.
GS had already since long stopped participating in the appointing of moderators and left it all to the now one Admin.
The rest is history.
Moderators comes and goes, so does Admins.
A few of the current crew was in the first or second batch of Mods that where appointed after
SD and I became Admins.
One of them is since long an Admin too.
That's
Esteban.
What I have tryed to say is, everything I know about managing a forum have I learnt from here.
The hard way.
The most important thing I learnt is:
without good contributing/sharing members a forum is nothing.
