Question on converting files

I would like to convert mpeg, avi files to DVD. I have a dvd burner and wish to convert so I can watch movies on DVD player.

Currently I can not watch files.

Does anyone know how to do this.

Heres a link to the "Newbie Conversion" thread at DVDHelp.com, the top sticky has list of free programs that will do the job. (maybe not as easily though).

You might also consider getting a divX-capable DVD player - then all you need to do is burn your avi/mpg files to disk and watch them. Won't help with .rm or .wmv files I'm afraid, but still gives you a lot for relatively little effort and expense.
