Late in the game, I've got some idea of at least part of the conflict. I may not know what the fighting was all about, but at least I've read the arguments. Whatever the causes, I noticed a couple things that might have made things worse.
One or more parties involved in this did not have a full command of English. Right or wrong, they hurt their cause with confusing, inflamed statements that they might not have truly intended. Likely, they didn't fully grasp what the other side was saying. Regular posters encounter this all the time, sometimes with difficulty, but we usually get by with
. That's little help with arguments, especially bitter ones.
In my sense of fairness, the burden should be on the fluent English users to be aware of this and try as best they can to lower the tone. In reality, it's plainly stupid to make an angry argument in a language you don't understand. If you can't make sense, don't make noise. Leave if you must - you'll save everyone stress, and even keep your own dignity.
I don't understand how the sock-puppets (whichever they are, whomever they belong to) played a role in this, if any at all. The puppets I've suspected, have given me more laughs than concern. Still, I can see how their appearance erodes confidence in friendly exchange, and raises general suspicion. Compounded with the language issue, it's fuel for fire.
Just some thoughts, and all I really care say about this - excepting a mention that Grimble's cheerful spirit was exactly what was needed for this post-game wrap-up.
Advice to Mods - perhaps it's best to adjust my permissions so I'm limited to 50-word posts. Sorry all!
