What is Rapidshare doing? Trying to alienate people? For free users you have to wait 5 minutes before every download (additional time if you downloaded something previously). All other sites have a wait time of 60 seconds or less. The biggest problem is that the download link dies instantly (or pretty close to instantaneously). If you miss the link you have to wait an additional 5 full minutes before another download link appears. It's ridiculous! I go off and do something else and then come back 6 minutes later and the link is dead and have to wait another 5 minutes. If they are going to have the 5 minute wait, they should keep the download link alive for more than a minute. All file hosting sites have their flaws, but this is utterly ridiculous. If I had to wait another minute for a new download link, I'd be fine with that, but the 5 minute wait each and every single time is aggravating.

Whats even worse is that the active link doesn't stay active for long. If you got to grab a pop at the wrong time, you end up having to wait another 5 minutes! And even worse is that after you dl a med to large file you have to wait almost an hour. But it gets worse. After I dl a file, I was busy doing other things for about an hour. When I went to dl another rs file, I STILL had to wait around 45 minutes to dl that one. It's like the 'wait time' countdown didn't begin until I tried to dl the next file. It's pure BS.

I did notice one good thing. Even after my isp went haywire and the dl speed was down to a crawl, the dl never got interrupted. I was literally shocked but happy.

I thought Oron was bad when it initially was used here. Waiting 3 hours in between large file downloads seemed excessive to me. But at least it's only a 60 second waiting period to get a link that lasts quite a while. Like I said, all file hosting sites have a flaw or two (or three), but the rapidshare flaw is the most annoying.

It's very annoying, but I can download from Rapidshare which is a pre-requisite of a file host for me, something Oron rarely achieves. MU is by far my favourite, plus several others which are banned here.

Lol, complaining about RS waiting time from an oron uploader...

RS do not have any ridiculous (re-)captchas, so you can use jdownloader and don't have to fear that the download link dies.
And five minutes waiting time before download plus one hour cool down between is far much better than you get by oron.

1. Four files, first one started after 60 seconds.

2. After downloading a real small file (no.1 , less than 100MB), I have to wait one hour 40 minutes for another 19 MB file:
screenshot

3. Next one, after the cool down, already less than 100 MB, waiting time roughly 40 minutes:
screenshot

4. Last one, after download of a file of 220 MB (skipped the third), waiting time two hours 11 minutes:
screenshot

So I have downloaded several files of increasing size, the largest one 220 MB and now I should wait more than two hours?!?

And you complain about one hour cool down time (plus five minutes waiting time) for using rapidshare?!?

Do the math for four files.

oron: 1h 40m + 40m + 2h 11m (+ 4m waiting time) = 4h 35m
RS: 1h + 1h + 1h (+15m waiting time) = 3h 15m

Plus as a great advantage:
RS works fine with jdownloader without any stupid recaptcha and I get a much faster download speed:

oron (as free user):

rs (as free user):

In a nutshell: RS is ten times faster, without (re-)captcha and with lesser waiting/cool down time than oron, but you complain...

maybe because RS does not pay as oron do?!?

I'm a JDownloader user myself, so I never miss the 5 minute pre-load. I have to agree, re-captcha is the biggest pain in the neck for users like myself.

For what its worth, Rapidshare has been free since friday. No wait between downloads. I loaded my jdownloader with 200 GB's and it finished in 19 hours. I'm not sure how long it will last though. It might have been because of the holiday weekend but it was never advertised on the Rapidshare website so I'm not really sure. I'd be quick just in case the 5 minute wait time and the 2.5 hour wait between downloads rears its ugly head again.

Ahh...I was wondering what was going on. I've been downloading some Jpop albums and was a bit bewildered by the lack of wait time. I thought maybe they actually listened to all the people bitching about it. Oh well, too much to hope for.

Looking at my dl speed, I see no difference with rs than I do with oron. Some files are faster than others but there's no great difference. On a side note, RS is currently crashed here. It conked out about 2/3 the way thru a dl and now it won't restart.

Just switched to fserve and it's faster than rs.

When it comes to these various services, I think where you live in proximity to their servers has far more to do with server speed and stability than anything else.

MU is my current fav as well. I recently upgraded my internet and am now getting 1.7MB/s - 2.5MB/s as a free user on MU. Where as Im still only getting 350/600kb/s on Oron as a free user, I havent tried as a premium user yet since I let my account expire. My other fav are also not permitted on this site, I posted in the Oron thread that maybe its time to reconsider the DL hosts permitted here?

When you're downloading large files, there is little difference between RS and Oron, but for smaller files, if you add up all the 5 minute waiting times, it adds up quite fast. If you downloaded 10 small files (which I do on a forum like this), the math would look like this:

RS: 10x5m= 50 minutes
Oron: 10x1m= 10 minutes

That's a difference of 40 minutes! For me, I notice no difference in download or cool down periods between the two file hosters, so for downloading small files (10-50mb) Oron is much faster for free users. I think MU is the best for free users, but I don't mind other hosters and their minor flaws. RS's flaw just seems extreme to me.
