1. History Book.
2. Morale Guide.
3. A tool for the kings of old to control the masses.
I myself see it as a tool used by the kings of old to control the masses, I am just curious what everyone else thought.
All three actually. The book has a history of ancient times, often told in a way that the uneducated people of the time could comprehend. So while the facts are sometimes off, it still gives a good picture of the time in which it was written.
The book is a moral guide and much of it teaches us to treat people as we would want them to treat us.
Finally, since the book is basically a good and valuable book on religious values, certain religious leaders have used it to control and manipulate their followers to obtain power and money. They use specific references, often out of context or sometimes included in the bible for questionable purposes many years ago, to abuse their power and make people follow them in ways they never would if they thought on their own.
If more people used it for one and two, we wouldn't have many of the problems in society brought on by three.
