What set of terms best describes it for you?

1. History Book.

2. Morale Guide.

3. A tool for the kings of old to control the masses.

I myself see it as a tool used by the kings of old to control the masses, I am just curious what everyone else thought.

All three actually. The book has a history of ancient times, often told in a way that the uneducated people of the time could comprehend. So while the facts are sometimes off, it still gives a good picture of the time in which it was written.

The book is a moral guide and much of it teaches us to treat people as we would want them to treat us.

Finally, since the book is basically a good and valuable book on religious values, certain religious leaders have used it to control and manipulate their followers to obtain power and money. They use specific references, often out of context or sometimes included in the bible for questionable purposes many years ago, to abuse their power and make people follow them in ways they never would if they thought on their own.

If more people used it for one and two, we wouldn't have many of the problems in society brought on by three.

The book tells us how the people from the ancient times do not understand things like spaceships, etc. I still believe we were visited by aliens thousand of years ago and shaped our destiny.

1. If the Bible is a History Book, then it is the worst one ever written. In fact I would go so far as to say it is dangerous to believe that anything written is the Bible is factual. Faith or Fact, pick a side because one doesn't mix well with the other.

2. Anyone who uses the Bible as a stern moral guide will find themselves killing more than saving. It's true the bible has great philosophies on how to treat each other with kindness and compassion. It also holds verses that promote intolerance and violence. Use your best judgement, think critically, or just plain think.

3. The back of a box of Cheerios can be used to control the masses honestly. Giving your soul to an idea should not mean giving up on sensibility. Don't hate the Bible because people have and will use it to promote their own ideals through violence and subjugation.

The bible is just like any other religious book ... it's original intention was not to create a large population of zealous blind-followers. It's a pretty decent read.

It is definitely not a valid source of "history" though ... that is a fact.

This. I think it's a good book to show how insane people were, but also there's some parts that say how people should act to one another. I'd take it as seriously as Cat in the Hat Razz

The first bible was put together in around 800ad
that means 800 years of Chinese whispers, think about it.

The reason religion exists to start with in a Christian form is to degrade women and make them subordinate to men. The churches of the time condemned women as slaves and servants. This was in pure oposition to ancient religions thath saw women as the true powers on earth, Erce etc .

The bible is a fable containing little if no facts what so ever, especially the old testament which takes all its stories from the ancients.

" to follower on faith alone is to follow blindly"

Why is it for everything we see in life we demand proof, except the existence of god.

great post sir, I agree. The scene in Religulous that everyone should see is how the story of jesus is completely taken from Hercules, Horus and other religions thousands of years before any of the bible was written.
