Ok, all you computer porn experts, I have a question. I have seen this asked in various posts, but thought it was more appropriate to put here and not clutter up the video threads.

I have a few vids that will not fast forward, example the long Suzie Carina that starts with her vacuuming and an Emily vid, both gotten here.

I have tried multiple viewers VLC, Windows, DIVX, etc, and all will just start the vid and not let me scan.

I thought I was being tricky, and tried to load it into windows movie maker, thinking I could just put it all together again and have it work, but the program will not even load it giving me a message saying the file is not indexed so invalid or something like that.

Anybody found a trick to make these things behave properly???

Any help is greatly appreciated...

the suzie carina video runs on vlc and wmp. i would say you have to update your codec pack. you can use AVIcodec 1.2 to detect which codes you have installed and which is needed. i only found a link to a german page http://www.soft-ware.net/multimedia/video/kompression/p03692.asp
if you have problems with the language try to find the program yourself in english. perhaps google or something. i hope i could help you.

This happens when people who don't know how to compress a video try to compress the video. Smile Seems to be mostly with WMV files, but I have seen it with AVIs as well.

You have two ways to go. The best way is not cheap, or may require some software piracy. Get Sony Vegas (Audio/Video editor) and use it to open the entire video and then reprocess it with a new codec.

Cheap way? Try VirtualDub (google for it), which can reprocess AVIs. It's not exactly full-featured, but often does the job.

Also check out http://www.videohelp.com/ which has links to lots of software, mostly free, as well as guides and how-to's.

{Edit} Just found this at vcdhelp.com: "In virtualdub when you click on file open and the file selection option appears look on the bottom left and check on the "Popup extended open option". You will then be able to reindex the avi. It will take a while but once it's done just save it again in direct stream mode which is quick and it will now be possible to seek in the new file."

Once again, Elmo is dead on!
In my humble movie thread (shameless promotional gambit) I have experienced this problem at first hand, and, if I wish to share my favorite clips (under the 100MB RapidShare limit) I'm going to have to go through exactly the process that the GreenFather describes. I, however, will be employing Final Cut Pro.
I know none of this helps, but at least identifying the problem is a good start.
For my part, I have had trouble with clips that are not correctly (or carefully) suffixed; i.e.: somefun_clip.avi.001
Often, when I download such a clip, I can "rename" the clip, placing the file extension (.avi) at the end of the filename, and all is well. Sometimes, though, it doesn't work, and I still wonder why.
If it weren't for the erotica, I would get rid of this thing tomorrow.

i have a solution to this problem, first, sir darkstar was right, sometimes an incomplete download will cause this so try downloading again but if that does'nt work for me then i use a programme called 'x video converter' and the trick is instead of converting your vid, lets say from mpeg to avi, you tell it to convert into the same, ie= mpeg into mpeg, this gives it an ending and that allows you then to skip forwrd and so on,
this method has worked for me, but now the problem is i cant tell you where to get the programme, i got it free from somewhere, i've tried this site-
http://www.xvideoconverter.com/
which i found in he help section but where is the programme?
but this method should work with other converters maybe,
hope this helps.

edit-sorry markino this was not intended for you but as a solution for original poster to get the vid to behave properly.

Exactly my thought. I like AVIs better anyway.
If you have a WMV, however, VD won't open it. Try TmpegEnc instead, it's free as well. It can use any codec if you choose "export to file -> avi" or something like that.

None taken, jimpel! It's just my view, and anyone can see that I'm no expert.
But the matrix that can meld all these different file types does seem to be an editing program of some sort.

Hey, I'm here to learn, too. That's why I'm over here in General Chat instead of looking at the girls!

Well thanks guys for all the advice. Looks like today I go out into the world and search for some of this stuff. I have always heard that some people use the internet for things besides porn, and I guess it is time I checked to see if the rumors are true Laughing Laughing Laughing

Thanks again!

Easy -- Fast -- Free

This will work lots of movies, and the ones that get fusterclucked like that are mostly the ones it works on. It is a good tool for joining, cutting and stuff like that, and easy, lots of peoples don't use it because to join and stuff it doesn't work with all, so you have to have another joiner for the ones it doesn't work with.

It has lots of repairing stuff, confusing complicated crap like lost chunks and other stuff. But for fixing that part where it "won't fast forward" and you can't adjust the brightness it is IDIOT FRIENDLY which works for me.

Google and download and install AsfTools 3.1

It is free.

To fix that part you just start AsfTools, wait for the OK button to highlight and click it. In the top you browse for your vid, find it and drag to bottom box. On left click Basic Repair and it does it for you and you don't have to do nothing or know nothing.

It makes another vid called "yourvid bsr" in the same folder really fast. The bsr is basic repair. You can also do advanced repair if you want, but the basic repair will fix it where you can fast foward and adjust brightness and stuff.

I have this program and really only use it for fixing that.

EASY -- FAST -- FREE

Three of my Favorite words!!!!! (Well, not so much FAST, but the others)

Thanks for the info, Lisa. Especially since I tried using VirtualDub last night, and when I tried to load one of the movies, I got an error saying will not work with ASF files, and it sound like the program you suggest specifically deals with that, thanks again![/b]
