As I understand it, they are able to monitor peer2peer networks and identify: IP address, ISP, file names. They then demand the ISP identifies the owner of the connection.
So it sounds like the scam is limited to P2P file sharing.
I'd be interested to hear someone explain the relative security of the File Hosts used here?
Mods list "safety and security" as reasons for limiting hosts to Oron, Megaupload and Rapidshare. Is this security as in virus threats or reduced risk of identifying users??
I did read that two ISPs "Virgin Media and TalkTalk" refused to hand over the data of their customers to the law firm involved.
