After no action and no reply in the last weeks, is it even worth shouting until we're blue in the face that FO NEEDS to bring the "Search Topic" function back?

I may not agree with the direction this forum has taken, but it's in both New GS's/the mods' and our interests for this to be enabled again. If people can find what they're looking for, that's more Oron downloads and more money for you! If they can't, then they'll probably search at other forums instead. Why would you want that?

If you're not planning on bringing it back then for God's sake give us your reason and we'll just have to accept it.

Come on! Confused

OMFG! Are you serious!!!!!!!!!! They aren't gonna make too much money like THAT! What, do they think we will actually do endless searches (non-topic) and scroll though countless threads to find what we want?!? Hell NO! We find a new forum, that's what we do!!!! My GOD! The very idea is insulting!

Have to say, I agree with Matadorstuff.

The search function is good to whittle things down to however many pages of threads that have the word you're searching for, nothing else.

Without the ability to search the threads themselves, you're sometimes stuck with having to manually search through 30, 50, maybe a hundred or two hundred pages of posts, when there might only be ONE instance of the word you searched for in there??

Thanks but no thanks. If the intention of removing the thread search is to drive people from the board, then I'd say you accomplished something. If you're wanting to keep members, I'd suggest bringing back the thread search function.

'Nuff said. Cool

Excuse me if I'm wrong but one way you can search for what u want is just use google! Smile. Go to google, type forumophilia then what ever your looking for and it will he catched in there somewhere, hope I helped

As for taking out a search option, I think that's dumb, how are you supposed to know what the site has to offer, and what if your new like me, how will u find anything if u don't know its even there!

Ok this might help.

screenshot

Green - Search for Keywords: Search for any terms or use query as entered. or Search for all terms. - Search for all terms, will cut down on what is found. (This works the best if poster list model and set name.)

Yellow - Forum: - Choose the section that you think whatever you are looking for is most likely in.

Red - Display results as: Post or Topics - Choose post or else you will be scrolling through whole threads. (I too thought the search feature sucked, till Trebron pointed this part out.)

"Everything works just fine"? Well yes, as far as the features enabled go.

But you shouldn't have to go through hoops like this to find what you want within a specific thread.

I hope New GS sees restoring "search topic" as a priority.

I agree. I was searching for Abilene yesterday, because I knew that there were more sets of her and the seach found some in the Femjoy thread, but it is impossible to find it again when you have to browse to 100+ pages.

Just did a search for Abilene and came up with 37 post matches. I did not have to browse 100+ pages. Just choose these options.

Green - Search for Keywords: Search for any terms or use query as entered.
Yellow - Forum: All available
Red - Display results as: Post
(Click on my pic to enlarge it to see where these options are.)

It would be nice if you could just search a specific thread also but is there really a need for it when this works. It found ever post with the word Abilene in it. Only ones it misses are the ones were the names are not given, spelled wrong or disguised, @bil3n3 (0 posts found) Laughing Is it not easier to search the whole forum instead of all the threads that may or may not hold what you are looking for?
For me this works just fine even through i hardly use it. By the way, the Abilene sets i posted are all dead. Wink

Now that you've figured out how to make the most of the standard search function we've had here forever, a word / name like Abilene is going to be very easy to narrow down.

However, if you try doing the same thing with a more common word like "Gone" it is not going to be nearly as satisfactory.

(Example idea culled from shmeets movie game thread)

Thanks a lot Jordy. I saw that you had already mentioned it, but I was too lazy to read the whole thread.

Well it turns out that your files were the ones I was looking for and there are some more links which are dead as well. Thanks for the tip though Very Happy
