DNS. If you type "forumophilia.com" then the browser send "who is forumophilia" to your DNS (Domain Server) and it will be told

Cheap filters merely remove those names from their list. OpenDNS is a free service but they also sell products for all kinds of filtering. Their basic option is free and gives you 100% uncensored internet. Smart people in Turkey for example use this option.
for Mac:
If that trick doesn't work, an anonymous proxy is a website which allows you to browse the internet via their website. Nobody can see anything except that you use a proxy. The services are free. Downside is that it is slow and often used by spammers so it is usually blocked on bigger sites, so use it to view but not interact.
VPN or private proxy is a similar method but than a fast one and encrypted as well, however those are paid services.
If you live in Saudi Arabia, you'll notice that all the above are useless and they use Tor (The Onion Router - free but incredibly slow), usenet (pay) and torrents (free).
