A mod edited this post and added some braces (code box) to the belt I provided (anonymz.com)

Its 2010, code boxes are a 2001 solution - dereferrers don't keep server logs.

There are a slew of browser gadgets that let me click on links in code boxes. Code boxes are as useful at protecting this board going as referrer as is a wet tissue when used as a condom!

What about all those bare links to ORON I see - I'm going to start reporting them for not even trying to prevent FO being sent as referrer.

There ought to be a rule that says if a mod changes a post he must leave a calling card - rather than be an anonymous coward. So I'm certain it wasn't svinto - he always leaves his calling card when he messes with my posts Wink

I wasn't the one, who edited it.
But here's the explanation.
Any sort of link protector like anonymz.com aren't allowed anymore, as well as hotlinks to news or paysites.
Therefore these links are put in code tags.
Hotlinking RS, MU or oron file links is allowed, and wasn't changed before.
I know, there are lot of gadgets, which allow clicking coded links (I use them as well), but that's the rules.

Wasn't me either, even if i have to admit that i tend to do that sometimes (and mostly i'm too lazy to leave a comment then).
But there's surely one advantage that link-coding has: you can be sure that it's not a formatted link ([url=...]) that leads elsewhere than stated in the description, therefor i like code-boxes for outside links, it's just just a little bit safer and of course easier to moderate. And i would not refuse if someone would suggest that all links should be coded (filehoster links too), like some other board still require.

But another thing, just curious: i suppose those tools also "convert" formatted links like this, right?

I did it and I didn't sign it because all I did was add the code box, I could have removed it because of rule violation(hotlinking) and if members are going to start threatening to report other members links because of shit like this Quote:

this forum is going down the tubes in a very short time. As stated by MDR No link protectors are allowed anymore. Cool

And I think the idea is to have them refer here, can you say affiliate.

If you don't like a host don't download from it, how long do you think the Oron posters would stay around if they were not getting any downloads from their posts.

They're flooding with the same content very many sites so they do not care/know in which place they get downloads and in which place - they don't. And it is not difficult for them to massively to copy/paste the same content in one less or in one more site...
