Do you mean that some RS links come with a html-ending and others not?

I noticed that when using the old RS premum zone (which is now inactive) and copying a link you normally get it in the old way:
Code:
dead link

Copying the link from the same file in the new premium zone (which is now the only available one) you got an .html ending added
Code:
dead link

Both links lead to the same file on RS servers and when clicking the link, the downloaded file has the ending .rar which leads (according to the settings of your browser) to a downloaded file with a .rar-ending.

But there are also some other RS links posted here (in that way)
Code:
dead link

that make your browser ask you if you want to open the .html file. That is mostly a result of a not carefully remote uploaded file: The poster had an original link from another hoster, let's say hotfile which comes this way
Code:
http://hotfile.com/files/12345678/file.rar.html

an he remote uploaded the file to his RS account. The file in his RS account has now the ending .html
According to the first example, link copied from old prem zone looks like
Code:
dead link

but it gets clearer if you copy the link from the new prem zone:
Code:
dead link

In both cases the file is still a valid rar-archive but you can say it's the "fault" of the poster to provide such a misleading link. Of course you can tell your browser to not open, but to download the .html file, but you have to rename (remove the ending) afterwards via the Windows Filemanager before you extract it (and that can be tricky if you have the standard option enabled to hide the endings of associated files)
You can prevent these troubles if you tell your browser to download the html-file, and change the filename before downloading and remove the ending (also depending on your browser settings, means the standard action of html is set to "save as" and not "open")

Such small faults can lead to a lot of trouble, so posters are encouraged to be careful when remoting files to RS and either rename the files in their account afterwards or add a phrase to the download link before remoting (mostly you can rename the files while remoting by adding "/filename.rar" to the dl-link)

Well, hiding the extension of files is a stupid practice anyway IMO... I like to know what I look at, so this is always the first thing I un-check, even if I work on someone elses comp...
