i am probably gonna stop using rapid to upload,
as they've turned against uploaders. Crying or Very sad

i will continue to use megaporn but am looking for a new mirror
host that conforms to your rules.however your "Permitted File Hosts"
hasnt been updated since 2008 and am wondering if there are any other
acceptable hosts that you are considering.

my two main concerns are ease of use/speed for free downloaders
and longevity of the uploads.on your list the only one that seems
good for both is megaupload but i dont really want to use 2 megas.
mediafire is great for downloaders but my experience is that the
files dont last very long.

the only others host(s) on your list are MiHD / Ifile.it
which no-one uses as they are unreliable in too many
ways.

so does anyone have any recommendations?

I will continue using rapidshare as I am not driven by their (old) rewards. Only concern could be the barriers for free downloaders, but damn! they get stuff for free anyway ... so a little effort is not that bad.

And remember, sooner or later any hoster will apply same or even worse barriers once they get their desired critical mass ...

So what happens when all my time from RapidPoints runs out and i can no longer renew my premium account? Should i pay for a premium account to download while i upload to Rapidshare? Now Rapidshare only sell premium accounts and everyone pays to download. Why would anyone upload to such an unfair service?

I have 700k premium points, and a/c valid till may 2011. Never use their reward system in the past except to extend my a/c and be able 2 dw stuff.
Now when points are absolute after 1th of July, I try to convert my points 2 more time.

And that's not possible! : "You can extend your Account at least 6 months before the expiry date" But than I will have no more points.
So my 700,000 premium points will just vanish, and after 1 year when my a/c expires I will have to pay to extend a/c.

This probably answer your doubts. Yes you will have to pay to extend your a/c.

Well, I pay for 7 fl.hoster & upload on 3 MU, RS, HF so I don't mind paying as downloader for RS as I pay for DP SM ... but to upload and pay for a/c !?
That wont work for me.

Nonetheless, I don't get what is this stubborn "I'll stick with Rapidshare" thing. First, there is this attitude that sharers should not expect financial reward for uploading, that the personal good-feeling of helping downloaders and getting thanks is good enough. I'm not too much against that, I think we've all seen what happens when cash-whores pollute forums and when we live for the cash, not the appreciation. But now, there's this second mentality. Since Rapidshare treats downloaders like shit, people want uploaders to upload to Hotfile, etc. that treat downloaders better. These the same people say, "well, deal with it because you shouldn't be able to download quickly and easily..." ... then what is the point of all the "gratitude" and altruistic motives?

Either way, I see that sticking with Rapidshare does no favors. It isn't good for the uploader, or the downloader... so is there any point of clinging to it?

Or is there another reason for people to continue using rapid?

Due to the changes RS made, I've unlocked the suggestion thread again:

Feel free to suggest new alternatives.

I'm not a mod, but here's my two cents...

Yeah, I think RS totally fucked things up. Figuring I can't change their minds, I went shopping for a new host. Of all the hosts permitted here, I think MegaUplaod is the fairest to both uploaders and downloaders. You can upload and download for free with fairly gracious file retention times and a 45 second wait period for downloading. Unlike some hosts, the wait time for subsequent free downloads doesn't get longer - every file has the same 45 second wait time. If you sign up (still free), you get slightly longer file retention times and the wait time drops to 25 seconds.

The real beauty of MegaUpload, to me anyway, is that even free downloaders can get files up to one gigabyte - no more splitting files into 100 and 200 megabyte chunks. That makes it a lot easier for free downloaders to get larger files without having to go back and get all the pieces. That's also going to simplify the mess I've got going on as I intend to move all 3300+ files I have on Rapidshare to Megaupload.

With the paid package prices being cheaper than the others I looked at, and the fact that your files are never deleted as long as your account is active, I just took the hit and signed up for life at Megaupload.

You may want to move the post of ragingbuddhist to the suggestion thread.

I posted it there, too - but, more than likely, jumper is going to look at his own post for answers.
