A)

Switch off your router.
Switch it on again.
You have a new IP
dl again until you reach dl limit

B)

For members of this forum a premium membership with RS is very useful considering the number of links posted. If you are a serious sharer of things then it can be quite advantageous. I signed up about a year ago and, with links being shared here and a few other places, I've been able to extend my membership for free since then.

If you, or anyone else, want some advice on how to get the best out of RS premium memebership then I'd be happy to give some help.

Rapidshare will wise up to this and throttle back the speed of free downloads and or remove free downloads altogether. So make the best of it while it lasts!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

You type in cmd and hit enter or press OK button.
A new DOS window opens where you type in ipconfig /renew and hits enter. If you after ipconfig puts in Question you get a list of all available commands for ipconfig.
Good luck.

You know, I don't think this method will work very well. (And yes I know it works for some before the augument starts) Becouse there are a number of different things to take into account when trying this...

1. There are still some ISP's that run Static IP's. So in that case it won't work.

2. The rest of the ISP's running Dynamic IP's, well it still may not work either. If you use release and renew of your IP, you will have to wait a small period of time (depends on ISP) in oder for a new address to be issued from the address pool, could be seconds or minutes. I've seen released IP's returned after being renewed even after a few minutes of waiting. Depends on ISP's addressing. Most dynamic IP's last for 3-4 months and in some cases you are stuck with that IP untill your lease runs out.

3. I've noticed a lot more ISP's now require you to call in to them when you set up a hardware firewall (router), so they can config it on their end (not sure of their exact proceedure in this). So you would become a nusience to them pretty quickly. Again that depends on your ISP and their perticular setup. With our ISP I and others had to call several times to have the router setup on their network.

4. If RS continues on it's growth spurt they may start logging MAC addresses instead of IP addresses, to avoid the normal work arounds by users. All MAC addresses are unique to the comp it's attached to.

5. And I know this will get me in trouble, but if you as a user have to ask how to get around this... well you probably should't be making config changes to your system. It only takes a small mistake to cause a large problem. The reason I say this is there's not a day that goes by that someone doesn't ask a me comp question.

Now I know some people here (perhaps a lot) are doing it (25,000 members), but eventually Your ISP will notice the constant addressing changes and take note of your activity. Remember DHCP Servers are monitored, and all account activity is logged.

With all that said, there's the nusience factor, of continually going threw the above process, if it works for you, on a constant basics. Personally I tried it and even with a dynamic IP, it didn't work for me. Now I may have missed a step, I don't know.

Just one final thought on the above process... A lot more ISP's are starting to put quotas on their users accounts to limit bandwidth issues of us DL hogs. In time we will all have to start showing some restrainght in DL'ing.

For me I found buying a RS account, my best approach. It just made sense with the amount of great content here. Plus the RS account gives me control and security in knowing that all my UL'ed files are there untill I decide otherwise.

I'm sorry I got a little carried away but I just wanted to add my 2 cents.
