504 Gateway Errors - Interesting finding

I've had repeated problems but only in some cases when trying to add an attachment. I would try and try on one post and always get the 504 timeout while other posts would attach first try. I thought that maybe something had been fixed and I would go back to the previous posts where I wasn't able to attach a photo and would still time out.

I came here to look for others with the same problem and found related but not exactly the same problem I was experiencing. I primarily use Firefox and tried all the suggestions related to that to no avail. I got online with IE and had the same issues. I thought that at times the suggestions were working as I would be able to upload but then, after posting a number of picture sets and trying upload cover photos, I started seeing a pattern that was totally unrelated to the browser.

I don't know if anyone else has this problem but I can't attach a photo with the filename Cover.jpg. I did some experimenting and found that Covera works, Cove works, Covea works (so it isn't the filename length). I looked to see if there were any instructions to not use that filename and while there may be, I didn't find them.

So, while it may just be something unique to my situation, if you get 504 Gateway errors while adding an attachment, try changing the filename and trying again. May not be the silver bullet but can't hurt to try it.

It is indeed an interesting find.
I tested it with one 44kb image Cover.gif. Worked.
Same image just saved as .jpg instead. Error 504.
Renamed that image to Cover1.jpg. Worked.
Why this happends I have no idea.
Can't see anything in the setups I have acces to, that should cause such an effect.
Another mystery in the world of ForumOphilia.
