Bonsoir à tous,

1. Has anybody already experimented and tried
"My Downloader",
the new ad banner of Forumo ?

screenshot

2. And what do you think about
"myrapidlinks.com"

screenshot

its new service which rename the links ?

I suppose that it's allowed here...
cause I would find very strange to recommend it to us...
but to refuse that we use it!
Exclamation

I know, i'd better shut the fuck up Evil or Very Mad ...

... the folllowing is just my opinion - please ignore Mr. Green

I know this from my experiences at another forum, where the admins are "involved" at myD. I don't have experience directly with myD.

myD is a "chache" for files from real hosting sites like RS.
A user of myD is requesting a link from RS for instance (or another one of the supported hosts) and the file is downloaded to the servers of myD, stored there and then can be downloaded from there. Links directly to those cached files on the myD-servers can be posted as rapid-links.

Result: if many people are using myD, this generates less downloads from the original hoster and the links there might disappear soon due inactivity.
In some conspiracy theories people guess that files, which are stored at myD, are reported (and deleted) at the original hoster - in that case myD would take advantage of the fact that tey still have the files online.

At some forums people get banned for loading files, uploaded by someone else, to other hosts and posting the new links - and this is exactoly what this "service" is doing.

This 'service' is absolutely a disadvantage for any uploader, who want's to keep the links downloadable for everyone.

Leecher can use this service to download files from several hosts thru a paid account at this site (within their traffic-limits)

IMHO it's no favour for a sharing-community, if many user are using myD.
Links stealing destroys community - a link-stealing service can't be in the interest of any uploader.

If someone is interested in downloading files automatically and directly from the original hosts, with or without an account at the hoster, use Arrow http://jdownloader.org/

Just as an information.
Appointed moderators and administrators (me included) has nothing to do with what sitebanners are exposed in the forum.
We (the staff) are not involved with the site MyDownloader.net.

The decision about which site/s are exosed is made by the forum owner Good Samaritan.
The person with the hand on the switch for this forums existens or not.

As far as we (the staff) are conserned, it's the rules of the forum and associated topics that dictates which hosts and services are allowed to be used here.

["admins" in my previous post equals owners]

Just to make this clear: i'm of the same opinion like svinto.

Final instance about the decisions/rules are the board-owners. (Staff just has to agree with that - or quit Wink)

And administration/moderating (including the board-rules) and advertisements are two different things.

But things are getting complicated if the rules (board interests from users/staff pov) conflict boards=owners interests.

I recommend being carefull in being too enthusiastic about myD and I can only warn about encouraging users by board rules to use that service; nor allow/recommend using it just because it's in the ads. Can be a real trouble-maker. Mad

* advertise
* let leecher use it
* never force using it

Peace Cool

Thx to all for the answer to my FIRST question...

But now, Svinto, can you answer to my SECOND one ? (see in my first message, the "2" in red....).
Here, IMHO, MyD don't upload or download any files : it just convert the original link (RS-link, for instance) in another format : "http://myrapidlinks.col/xxxxx" –, as makes it RS-Monkey.
And it is thus the original file – the RS-link, for instance – that is downloaded by leechers... Thus no problem for the uploader: his RS-file does not disappear due to inactivity!

Is it allowed by our rules ?

What i was trying to say is: it's NOT the usual link-hiding like secured.in, rsmonkey and so on.

The files are downloaded ONCE to the "cache"-called storage of that hoster, then you have two links: the original link (RS for example - downloaded once) and the new link on a different hoster (i.e. myD), which is downloaded from myD from now on and never generates a download from the original hoster again.
The file is in fact hosted on two hosters now. Once uploaded by the uploader and the other link was generated by someone else (who gets the myD-points for that 2nd link).
This is called caching by myD to prevent legal trouble and to make it appear like they don't host the files. myD does store a copy of that file!

This is NO link-protection. (And i hope that it isn't allowed by the rules to steal links.)
btw. there is no option to add links to myrapidlinks without using mydownloader.

Embarassed i know, somehos this appears like all i want is flaming that service - I don't.

I did answer that in the previous post.
