interested in thoughts on file managers

my final manager is slow and non-responsive sometimes

i am looking at several downloads to replace it (freecommander, explorerXP, which are both free)

thanks for any thoughts on this issue

hi elfie,

xplorer2 is the best I know

dual pane, multi tabs, heaps of features like flattening folder structures, filtering, searching, previewing . I use the pro version on my main system because I want some specialised features (eg better support for Alternate Data Streams and Reparse Points and customising). The free version is more than good enough for most purposes.

One of the things I like, is the fact that you can do everything using sensible keyboard shortcuts.

The support is good, there is an active user forum and the developer keeps it current - eg he had win 7 compatibility when win 7 was still in beta.

zabkat.com is the place to go.

Total Commander google for it, it's first one you find. Build in ftp, zip+rar and many other compression formats, join/split tool - you don't need HJSplit. Also nice search and compare features. Tabs like Firefox ...
