I've been receiving an enormous amount of 502 Bad Gateway errors when trying to access almost all threads. Has anyone else been having this issue?

Text also says "nginx/0.6.39"

It is a problem when using some browsers....ie Firefox.

The solution....remove cookies refering to https://www.forumophilia.comwww.forumophilia.com.... sign in again.

This usually cures the problem

That seems to have been the issue. Thanks for the help!

I usually get this problem when submitting a post, or at least that's when it really annoys me.

I mainly post from Firefox 3.6 or IE 8 on XP-3, but I sometimes post from IE8 or Chrome on Win7, Konqueror on Ubuntu and Opera on Solaris - I am fairly certain I've had the problem on all platforms.

The temptation is to click the back button and resubmit the post. But then you'll usually end up with with duplicate posts - as happened to j8 in the angels thread yesterday.

I've found that if I re-enter the thread my post will be there - I don't mess with cookies, ad blockers, java or anything else. Here is what I do.

backspace and click the forum link at top of page,
find thread into which I was posting
99% of the time it will be at the top of the forum with my nick as last poster
go to last link and the chances are that it will be the one that I submitted just prior to the gateway error.
move on to the next post

My experience convinces me that the problem has nothing to do with browsers - its a server issue. On one occasion I was communicating in real time with another member on skype, we were both experiencing gateway errors at FO.

From what svinto has told me the FO version of phpBB is ancient, and the fact that it does not happen with anything like the same frequency on other phpBB powered forums is further evidence that its an FO issue and not a browser issue.

It did happen at the pink place the other day after erratic took the server down for "maintenance". He had to take it down again for a few minutes - it's been OK since - so erratic knows how to fix it.

This does not conflict with what ws777ot has suggested - logging out and in again would have a similar effect

However I question whether you need to remove the FO cookies, or that it happens more with FF than other browsers. Perhaps FO members use FF more than other browsers.

A couple of other porn sites will give you their stats if you know who to ask. Latest I have are from December, one reports 64% FF the other 73% FF. So one might observe that more problems are experienced by FF users than by users of all other browsers. But one would need to be careful about what conclusions might be drawn from such an observation.

Of course, you have to do battle with the Gateway to be able to read this thread, but the suggestions here are good - got me back up and running!

Cheers!

A little over a year ago we experienced a lot of 502/504 gateway errors.
It got to the point where it was almost impossible to acces the forum.
After several PMs the siteowner got it sorted and it has been working fine since then.
Until about two months ago, when I noticed an increase of occurances. Both by own experience and by seeing others reporting, asking about it.
On Feb 17 I sent a first PM asking for getting this fixed before it comes to the point where it was, back around the yearturn 2008/2009.

I just had the same problem - 502 Gateway Error Evil or Very Mad

EDIT: I'm using Win7, Firefox 3.6.3 with NoScript(FO on white list), Ghostery, BetterPrivacy and CookieMonster(accepting session cookies from FO)

I wasn't able to open most threads.
It was almost impossible to use the forum.

I saw this thread but couldn't open it. Mad
I used a little trick:

Go to the profile of the thread starter and then click on 'Find all posts by Tman-Z'.
Then you can see parts of posts of this thread.

Deleting forumophilia cookies solved the problem. Smile

In general it could be said that 502 error is "your" fault.
ie something with the connecting pc communication.
504 error is "our" fault.
The server has a problem to respond.

I got this error too few days ago and it was getting more and more annoying... It ended blocking the access to almost all the threads! When i saw this and the error page popped up, i didn't know if laugh or not Laughing
I'm using FF (with none of the plugin said by milli69 active) too, with Opera the error never showed, but after reading this, a deletion of cookies and a new login solved the problem.
Thanks for the help Wink
