RS: Error, no free slots for free users

I'm getting this message more and more, even late at night. I know, I should upgrade to a premium membership at some time, but for free users RS is almost unusable during the day. When you finally do get a free slot (it took nearly an hour the other day), the download starts and stops several times. You get an average speed of about 70kbs, usually less. Megaupload is probably the best free option available here for free users to download. A fast download and no waiting an hour for a free slot to become available.

I have no doubt that Megaupload is the best free file hosting site these days.

I think rapidshare is still the most popular though. I don't understand why people don't just sign up? It's reasonably cheap especially for the amount of stuff you can get. There should be no problem with the wife or girlfriend being suspicious as all you have to do is find a movie or music sharing site to pretend you are dl'ing from. It's not the same as buying porn direct on your credit card.

I got that a lot this morning, it's annoying as hell, almost enough to push me to signing up.

I get that message a lot, usually during the day. For over a year now, RS has chiseled away at the free service. I remember when the only delay was the 40-120 seconds that preceded the download. Then it was 15 minutes between individual downloads. Now it's regular hours where the service is unavailable--to free users. How long before they drop free users entirely?

As a free user I guess I have put up with it, but I won't be coerced into a premium membership. $10 a month or $80 a year isn't a bargain, especially when links are dead or disappear.

and dont forget, RS is a old company and all russia area crap hoster cost also 60-90 usd and most of this die next 1-2 years, all cccp hoster is CRAP and CASH making, hotfile (works here good, renew IP and then next 400mb file), FM is good if speed is from poster 100kb allowed, the new hoster are all crap. oron is also crap and many more.

This topic comes up all the time on the forums. I've never understood how people can have a problem with a free service, no matter how difficult it might be to use. Free is never really "free". Before I paid for a premium RS account, I just looked at the wait times and lack of slots as just what I had to deal with to get porn for free. Then came a day I really wanted to get a couple of DVD rips I saw and I took the plunge - I paid for 3 months. And this is where the beauty of Rapidshare comes in - they're the only file host I know of that has a point system that will allow you to extend your account for free. Upload enough content that people want every month and the account is self-sustaining. I'll admit that RS is becoming more of a pain all around, as they keep changing their rules, but I think they'll continue to be popular as long as it's still possible to extend accounts with points.

When I see a bunch of files on another host that I don't feel like waiting for, I just join for a month or two. It's a small price to pay for files that would cost you a lot more anywhere else.

You are right, RagingBuddhist, porn was never for free.
Just remember the old days when you paid the older guys the double price just to get their old playboy magazines.
Nobody seems to calculate how much money he's spending for up-to-date computers which are capable of viewing HD porn content or how much a nightly download session really costs. And do you really need a (porn) flatrate?
Or just think of the monthly costs for towels and lube

Compared to that a few bucks for a RS premium account seems to be a good investment.

And btw, a real girlfriend for only one month can be much more expensive than a lifetime premium account ...

i thought u only get points when free users download stuff on rapidshare? if this was the case then that is impacting the amount of points u can get.

it just seems lately RS are really cutting down on stuff for free users and premium users alike now that they have so much traffic

The problem is that 95% of the stuff here on forumphilia is posted to rapidshare. I'll reiterate, in the last month it has gotten nearly impossible for free users to download more than 1 or 2 files during about 16 hours each day. So why should users even browse the forums if you can't download what you find?

If you're not browsing the forum, why post? People had better watch out or this place will be getting very quiet in 6 months.

its obviously annoying when something becomes more difficult. just because it is still free to some extent doesn't mean we can escape the very human disatisfaction with things getting worse

people who sign up for RS premium membership empower RS to make it difficult for the rest of us. it's amazing how RS has fooled the masses into allowing it to become such a powerhouse. i call them suckers. i, for one, will never ever get a RS premium account.

Give me the name of an alternative that fits those two needs and come to my house to migrate the 150-200 gigs of files I have online at RS to the new host and get special permission from my ISP to upload that much content in a few days (without shutting me down for bandwidth overuse) and I'll be happy to switch.
