Why Have My Downloads Stopped Being Instant? Help Please.

Up until a couple of days ago, when i clicked a Rapidshare link for example
the save box was pretty much instant & then you would watch the download
bar progress.

Now, when i click a link or picture even the file seems to buffer for what can
be a few seconds or even minutes (dependingon file size) & then you get
the save option & bang, the download is done.

A 200mb file may take 5mins to buffer before getting to the save part but
then only takes a fraction of a second to download.

The problem I have is that when its a large file/s sometime the system can
timeout & I have to try again.

What has happened? My system hasnt been changed, well not by me anyway.

Help please, its driving me nuts

I have seen this bahviour once on another pc, but there a antivirus software was checking the whole file before the download option appeared.
But you said you haven't changed anything, so the only thing i can think of is that some settings have been changed by some automatic updates
Maybe try to disable any antivirus software (or downloadhelpers) for testing

You could also try to use an auther browser (ex Firefox or equal) and chose to NOT import the settings from the auther browser to see if the problem still exsists with the new settings, if not the problem should not be in the browser and perhaps its not software oriented.
