Check out this new Rapidshare option!

I forgot that i had deleted my cookies during a clean up and went to download a rapidshare link and the website opened instead of the Direct download, and i saw this when it was asking if i wanted to download as a free user or premium user. Look under where it says "Select your account" on the lower left side...




Up and Download up to 2GB sized files!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never tried it, but i guess it was possible also in past to upload bigger files using the RSManager. When uploading via browser interface there is still a limit of 200Mb (at least stated on the page, haven't tried)

But i would not upload 2GB to RS, cause at my speed it would take me more than 10 hours and a lot of things can happen during this time. Even if using the RSM for uploading (with the resuming function) i would not trust the integrity of the file.

But i down't understand why RS is not setting the limit up to 400Mb. They would have a lot more remote uploaded files from these new hosters available for RS users then.

400MB? Where did that come from?

I think this may be a new rule that was activated along with the changes made in october. I've been a premium acount holder for nearly 2 years now and i'm pretty darn sure that the max. upload size is/was 200MB via the website, and i know for a fact that rapidmanager will NOT let you upload anything over 100MB.

I read this on another forum by utucan... "Very few would know this but way back when RS and MU started they were both owned by the same guy "Christian Schmid" Whom I would say is most probably an extremely wealthy young man. He was also very approachable. Used to answer complaints personally sometimes.

I have no idea about his involvement anymore."


Loui375, you've never had to let an upload go overnight? I do it all the time with MU. As long as you don't use any kind of download managers its fine. Managers always mess up on long uploads imo... except for the rapidmanager with premium status. The only thing that messes that up is a power failure. Same with the website interfaces...imo.

Hm, maybe we misunderstood each other.
As i said 400Mb i was just referring to the max size of some other newer hosters like netload or hotfile. Not sure if they are offering bigger uploads for premium members and that's not the point.
I was just wondering why RS isn't participating more professional in this remote thing. If they would set the max filesize for (remote)uploads to 400Mb i'm pretty sure that there would be more files remoted to RS from those other hosters. That's all.

I won't bet my life for that, but i'm sure that the possibility for premium users to upload files up to 2Gb to RS via RS Manager is not a new thing. I've never seen such a big upload but sometimes you find files on RS that are 300 or 400Mb, and that was months ago.
My RS Manager is always complaining that files are bigger than 100Mb, but if it's smaller than 200Mb it will upload it. But i never tried to upload files that are bigger than 200Mb. And with the new version of RS Uploader i can also upload files up to 200Mb (haven't tried with bigger ones).

You are right what you said about the 2Gb file: i just don't feel very comfy with such a big upload, but that may be for no reason. Of course i'm uploading over night (files up to 200Mb) and as far as i know i never had any uploaded file that went corrupt during the upload process. So it may be also safe to upload 2Gb, but even if the the number of RS free users seems to decrease contantly, they should have a chance to download the files. So i'm fine with 200Mb files.

I think the limit was 1 GB before that change, but only premium members can download such files.
Free users can/could download files up to a max. of 200 MB.

lol! i've been posting links for free users for so long now i had completely forgotten about the option! I just tested it by uploading a 2GB file. It's almost done. Sorry folks, I'm an asshole! lol. Just goes to show, that just because you're 100% sure of something, it doesn't always mean you're right!!!
