Bit tardy but... it's Australia Day - an excuse for a day off, to drink savage amounts of piss (booze), throw copious slabs of red meat on the bbq, bitch endlessly about the Howard government, have a couple of 'sneaky' joints or bongs, and in general reflect on what it is to be Australian! So have a good one, and to all those non-antipodeans: fuck it, it's a great excuse to have a beer flavoured beverage or three!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Almost forgot to answer this one.

Good on ya! Throw another roo on the Bar-B for me and stay away from the Fosters. That's just for tourists.

New idea for Aussie exports: Debone a koala with the skin still on and sell it as a car wash mitt! Or maybe slippers!

He's got a huge fanbase in Melbourne, maybe we could get a heap of signatures and send em to the PM to make him one? even if he is a runner-up.. Sad

And yeh, his missus is the bomb!! Gosh those french chicks...

No one in Australia drinks Fosters, not even the tourists. Fosters just owns heaps of breweries here, you'd be hard pressed finding a Fosters branded beer down here.

You would usually find: VB for the south-eastern states (NSW and VIC), XXXX for Queensland and Swan or Emu for the western states.

And i don't know about that absinthe stuff..

Ahh, the great question on Aussie Beers! Funnily, Fosters is a bit of a wank as far as beer goes, and I'd have to agree it is mainly a tourist beer these days.

Personally, I like my beers to be bitter, so for me most of the brews made in Melbourne fit the bill, fave would be Melbourne Bitter, or off the tap in a pub, Carlton Draught. Being a Sydneysider I used to drink gallons of Tooheys New, but these days find it way too sweet. XXXX in Qld is a real doozie on a hot day, might just be me but I find after about 10 XXXX's people tend to get rather aggro, must be something in the water up in Qld. West End in Adelaide, less said the better! Boags Draught in Tasmania ain't a bad drop, beats Cascade in my opinion by a mile. Swan Lager in Perth, haven't had too many of them so best not to comment, and of course, the great old Darwin Stubbie, now that stuff could kill a brown dog! I just love the residue in the bottom of the bottle, really kicks ass!

That about covers the mainstream Aussie beers, apart from Hahn Ice or Carlton Cold, both ice-brewed beers, both bitter but a little overpriced in my opinion. Of course there are some pretty mean boutique beers as well, not to mention the pubs that brew their own, so the choices there are pretty wide. Then there are all the imports, there aren't really many beers that you can't buy in Australia if you're prepared to look. I used to like Heineken, but as with Tooheys these days find it a little too sweet. For kick-ass beer from overseas, hard to go past Elephant Beer, even if it isn't quite the powerful drop it used to be, still smashes you pretty good if you ain't careful!

So, to those that are interested, hope this spiel has been of help or interest.

Oh, and not to forget a piece of absolute importance, if you're gonna drink beer, then the only temperature you should accept here is BLOODY COLD!!!

Cheers and bottoms up!
