Image Venue used to be OK. Not any more. They load up ones computer with an incredible amount of crap.

Now when I leave the forum, I immediately do a washing to get rid of all the garbage.

Be nice if they were removed from the acceptable list.

Very Happy I don't have that problem. Only sometimes one pop-up.
I think it is great Wink

For about a week I've noticed there's a ton of url's loading before the pic/cap appears and that typically spelled trouble for me in the past - either spyware/virus or a browser crash.
I've not experienced any of these and I've been able to close the browser before it crashes, so I feel a bit lucky.
However, for the last 2 days I have not clicked a IV link and won't for a while until I'm sure what is happening doesn't reoccur.

Thanks for posting this topic, let's hope there are more here willing to share their (recent) thoughts.

You betcha' they sure do suck now.

It seems to me that the imagehost business model is:
play nice for a while, get a lot of hosted images, and then capitalized on that by selling space to every crapwhere advertiser who'll pay.

If my theory holds true, then I'd say that its pretty much to be expected that over time any given image host will turn crappy.

the only model I've seen is
1) site hosts a bunch of pictures
2) site disappears after 6 months

IV used to be better of course, but at least most of the images are still up

Imagevenue is surely one of the most popular imagehosting sites and therefor i don't believe that they don't check the ads they offer. I'm pretty sure that they won't spread malware or dangerous other stuff knowingly. But of course a site can be hacked even if it's just for fun.

From my experience, most antivirus software tends to be overreacting with default settings, so maybe you need to lower the security level.
Everytime i have the feeling that some imagehoster is behaving "strange" i make a virus scan afterwards to be on the safe side, but i'm sure that non of our "approved" imagehosters is dangerous per se.

I agree (although I personally normally use ImageBam for my thumbnails). For Imagevenue to allow dangerous viruses/spyware would be commercial suicide since a loss of confidence would surely mean a drop in users and loss of advertisers.
