Hi I wasn't sure which section to post this in. It is technical, but not a security question, so moderators, please feel free to move as necessary. I downloaded a couple of those 001, 002 etc files that you join with HJ Split without realising that's what they were, so changed the extension (I think) names from .WMV.001 etc to 001.wmv etc to get them to play. Trouble is, now I can't reverse them and have only half a movie. Any ideas or suggestions on what I should do? Any help gratefully recieved.

Why can't you change the extensions back? Is the right order missing?
You probably can figure out the order by looking at the download date. If you have the right order, put 001 and 002 ... at the end and try hjsplit.

Thanks for replying so swiftly Loui375. I've tried changing the extensions and I think I saw earlier that Windows XP automatically changed the extension back. For example, originally the files were called:

file1.WMV.001
file2.WMV.002

I changed them to:

file1.wmv
file2.wmv

I changed them back to:

file1.WMV.001
file2.WMV.002

and I think I saw them listed earlier (although I can't remember where) as:

file1.WMV.001.wmv
file2.WMV.002.wmv

Any suggestions?

Don't know if this will work. I haven't had the problem myself.
But for a suggestion.

Change the extension completly to
file1.001
file2.002
etc
Then on the combined file you add the .wmv extension.

Open the windows explorer
go to tools:options. select View tab
uncheck 'hide extensions for known file types'

then click apply.
Now go do what svinto says.. It should work.

Ah yes, haven't thought of that.
If you have problems following random888's suggestion, it may also help to rename the files to "file1.mwv.001.001". But the joined result you would have to rename back to *.wmv to play it.

But i'm not quite sure. Normally HJSplit should recognize the extension of the files even if they are not displayed in your explorer windows.
