The past two days my download speeds have dwindled to less then 30kbps on any server I pick from rapid. Is it just me and a virus or is any one else having a problem too?
Just checking.
Thanks for your reply.

I didn't encounter any speed problems, but it's of course also depending from where you download.
Have you checked your RS-settings? I once had selected special servers, who i thought were faster, but since i saw no difference to the automatic selection, i changed it back. But sometimes a file is extremly slow, then i just cancel the download and start it again, then mostly with full speed. Just make sure when using firefox, that you don't restart the download from within the download box (cause there the rs-server number is the same as your first download), but click on the original link again, so the automatic system can choose another server.

But a virus check from time to time is also recmmended. Maybe your pc is already part of the North Corean nuclear program Wink

I'm in the US as well but I haven't experienced any abnormalities.
I typically choose GlobalCrossing because it is consistently the fastest (IMO).
If it ever drops (usually due to the specific server having a problem I'm guessing), I choose Teleglobe.

Reading this topic I must be blessed with the speeds I have from RS.
Then again I'm a Premium user.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have improved a little so far, but my speeds are just not as consistant as they were a few weeks ago. I am a premium member myself, part of the reason I am surprisd I am having difficulty.
Part of it was a loose connection at my router, I think, not enough time gone by to tell for sure, but I was completly loosing internet from time to time.
I think it may be time to check with my ISP for a modem upgrade, since they supply them for me. I also think I still may have a bad virus that I cant pinpoint. Thinking of trying NOD32, I know some gamers that really love this antivirus for the speed.
I am a IBM user, so I do know that a full hard drive slows things too with the computer internally, this is the reason I went to external hard drives, among others, lol. Anyone had trouble with speeds slowing when an external hard drive gets full?
Anyways, sorry I have not been uploading, this amoung other problems is keeping me down for now.
BTW, sometimes I am now getting consitant downloads at 300 to 400 kbps, but most of the time I am getting a start at 300 hundred and then it quickly dwindles to 80 or 90 kbps. Weird huh.
Thanks again.

I have no such experience. Depending if it's peek or off peek with RS it varies between 4-10 MB/sec.
I'm using FDM so very often I have several files coming in at the same time with a total of 20 pipes.
For uploads with RS Upload Manager I get approx 1 MB/sec or 100 MB in about 95 sec.
My ISP connection is classified as 10/100MB.

It may help to try different antivirus software, but if it's a virus that slows down your speed, it would be active also if you are not downloading, so maybe watch if there is internet acivity in times you are not surfing or downloading.
Maybe you have some sort of automatic update service running in the background, most software nowadays come with this mostly unwanted "feature".

Your pc may slow down if some temporary files are located on this specific drive, but normally you won't have a internet speed loss then (or are you downloading on this nearly full drive)

Try to make sure that only downloads from RS are affected. When you have this slow line from RS, try to download some bigger files from other servers, maybe a MS ServicePack or some Java stuff from sun-servers and watch the speed.
If it affects only RS downloads, then your ISP is maybe throttling down RS.
If you have this slow speed with other servers too, then it's maybe your hardware. As you said, try this new modem from your ISP, maybe some cables are bend or folded.
Or it's the simple thing that your ISP has much more customers in your area than he has bandwith, that would be the worst case.

Holy crap Svinto, thats fast. The best I can manage lately is on my lap top at 800kbps. Thats though the same router my desk top is on, so that pretty much tells me something in my desk top has gone bad. Back when everything was new I was actually doing better then 1mbps, but that didnt last long when my ISP decided to layer thier service and charge more for turbo boost, so they call it. Bastards!
Anyway I am stable again it seems, (at least tonight I am) I dont mind waiting 5 minutes for 100 mb. The problem seemed to have been a splitter on my cable and a loose wire from the router to the computer. Funny how it only seemed to show up when downloading from rapid.

Your right Loui and thanks for reminding me. I guess I spend to much time on porn and not enough time on other sites. lol. There are so many variables here. This is a cable system and I am getting interferance on my TV, so thats probably another concern I need to address. Its also been 3 years since I reformatted my hard drive, probably the only way I am going to purge whatever is slowing my system down. I was kind of holding out for a new system and didnt want to go though the hassle.
Good advice guys, thanks
