Here is a suggestion for the forum that it's time to go widescreen. I'm a massive fan of hotlinked screens in mega threads, with the majority of surfers now using broadband thumbnails are really not nessesary. So i belive a change in the rules are in order as when this was made up 650x1300, max size of images, favouring hight over width. Most monitors were 4:3 but i belive that has changed now and think you should increase the width, closer to 1000, and shorten or leave the hight alone.

Congratulations for your new monitor Wink
But i will use my old 4:3 till it's smoking up.
Remember that we are only talking about hotlinked previews. I guess it should be possible to show the important content of a video in a pic of 650x1300 pixels. Making a nice preview takes some time, cause it should be more (imho) than only a screenshot.
So i guess we will have to wait till there's a clearer voting for 16:9 ...

Another reason for not allowing larger images is the time it will take to load a page/topic especially at low bandwith connections.
I have despite the current limitations, seen some complaints about multihundred paged threads, are very slow to load.
I have a fast connection but even I'm suffering to some extent when displaying multihundred paged topics.

Thanks Loui375 but i am actully on my sceond widescreen moitor, they just don't build them like the old CRT's.
As we are only taking about hotlinked images bandwidth connection and site slowdown should not come into it as by changing the allowed resolution does not mean larger image size eg:

screenshot
650px × 1369px, 208kb

screenshot
1000px × 736px, 194kb

The point of this thread was to try and get this forum to use more horizontal space over vertical, not larger images, but unfortuanty the poll has been pretty pointless as i was hoping for a lot more votes.

It's not a slow down of the forumophilia site I meant.
I meant for the viewer of the topic the display of a page could be a real PIA waiting for the offline sites to load the linked images.
It's the potential downloaders that will notice this.

I have a 24" 16:9 and quick broadband, however I'm for leaving things as they are - forum can be slow for various reasons such as server load, load on the trunk etc, no need to slow it down with large previews.

this is a better way of saying what I was going to say.
